Does anyone know where I can find the old patter story of the magician fooling the king 3 times? I believe it was used with the "pom-pom poles".

I think the patter you are looking for is for the Chinese sticks. It was originally written by Joe Palen and appeared in the December 1941 issue of Tops.
A slightly different version of the patter line can be found in my lecture notes "Sometimes the Jokes are Just for Me"
"America's Foremost Satirical Magician" -- Jeff McBride.

Hey Payne,
Where can we buy your lecture notes? I've always loved your posts and bet you have some great stuff. Best, Dan- "MT is one of the reasons we started this board! Hi Rev Bill:
Payne is correct. The routine also appears in the Kid Stuff series. I'm pretty sure it's in Volume 2, which you can still get from Magic Inc. Ron |

My goodness, how things do go back into pre-history! If I'da known that I was gonna grow up to earn my living as a magician, and that one of my best routines was written 8+ years before I was born ... wow!
I used the basic idea in thousands of shows for 15 years or more, starting (I guess) with the Kid Stuff (Marshall??) idea, and it quickly evolved into my second-best, most elaborate feature: costumes for 3 kid volunteers, cute "actions" for each, parents taking pictures all over the room. Well, thanks Frances Marshall, thanks Joe Palen! |

I use the patter in my Reading show (for schools), and in other shows. Picked it up from the Kid Stuff books years ago.
Great to know of it's origins. Thanks Payne. - Donald
