Oops...I didn't realize that Mr. Curtis Kam had already posted links to Claudia on another post.
Sorry for the redundancy. Bosco |

When you wear a dress the audience only thinks they can see the position of your legs.
Also women have an "excuse" to carry with them all sorts of magical things like mirrors. Just a few ideas. Thank you for the Roxanne link. Her routine has a very classical appeal. I imagine I am in a different century. |

Speaking of mirrors, I just posted "Devil's Compact" for women magicians in The Wizards' Journal #14 (on my site). It's not just for women, but the idea originated while thinking about designing magic especially for women. Now that the idea is there, men can adapt it to their needs. I've included a bonus article, "Freely Forced" which may be of interest to those who want to disguise a force piggy-backing on a free choice.

Because there are not effects specifically designed for women that don't mean that some can't be used or modified.
Some close-up effects might be: "Twighlight" by Paul Harris uses a compact size mirror. Steve Duschek has a coin effect called "Quick Change" that uses a Bulldog Clip. A hair clip could work here. There are tricks with pearls like 'Pearl Poodle' and 'Mystery Poodle'. Also some tricks using gems and jewels are more suited for the ladies than men IMO. |

We already know that women can modify standard effects to match their own styles. They have HAD to do that for years, only because nothing was designed specifically with women in mind as the primary performers. So this thread is not intended for a list of the tens of thousands of existing effects that women can adapt, but rather to encourage some new thoughts and new effects with "ladies first" in mind.

I have invented princess magic tricks for my princess character, and customized a good deal of existing classics to fit a girly theme.

I could go on BUT take a look through any old magic catalog and make a list yourself of all the tricks that show women performing the effects... not just being the beautiful assistant in the background.

Good point, thanks. I hadn't considered any of those since I've never really had any interest in effects that require me to dress differently, but now that you mention them it seems obvious.

While I would agree that smoking effects are mostly male-only, I recently saw a female magician here in Germany who does a smoking manipulation act and it was really well done, modern, and didn't look out of place.
I wouldn't go near anything in this genre myself, but I was very pleasantly surprised!

The big word in fashion in the new year is "SHEER". That should be an opportunity for female entertainers. ("Sheer" and "macho" isn't an automatic match.)

I agree that it seems that many illusions relate to the clothing typically worn by males. I am a tailor/seamstress by trade and have been doing some tinkering with women's clothing. I am pretty petite and I doubt it would look even remotely natural for me to wear a suit! So I haven't really come up with anything substantial, yet. But I will post when I do. Can someone help me with the etiquette of that? I recall reading a post warning against posting secrets or solutions to tricks. I would like to share what I have figured out- but I certainly don't want to get the boot!

Pick someone you trust from reading their posts and send that person a PM to ask if they would look at what you intend to post and make sure that it does not expose needlessly.
