Paul Vigil has released something that is truly something amazing. His new effect “Diplopia ” is one of the strongest pieces of mentalism with a deck of cards I have ever seen or read. Let me save you some time before you read this review and just say this “buy it!” for $15 dollars you can’t go wrong. Paul could have released this manuscript for a lot more money and I would have gladly spent the money for the trick.
The effect: From the creator of Ladybug. A deck is borrowed and shuffled. The spectator and magician both think of cards. This is a completely free choice. The spectator is asked to read the magician’s mind and remove the card they feel is being concentrated upon. The magician does the same. With no questions asked the magician finds the spectator’s card – and the spectator finds the magician’s! Its one of those effects that you can either buy and fool everybody with (laymen and magicians) or you can be the guy who got fooled by it (and probably loose years of sleep trying to figure it out, trust me though you won’t figure this out…ever! So just go buy it) Review: 5 out of 5 stars! Price: $15 PDF Paypal: paulvigil@hotmail.com |

Does anybody have a streamlined method of "card-******" when all the reds and blacks are mixed up?
thanks, fib |

Is this a good effect for strolling? I mainly do a lot of restaurant/strolling work, where it's in the hands sorta stuff.
Thanks. Steve |

Steve I also pondered this for strolling, however decided against it since interuptions constantly arise & it is difficult to end this effect quickly, that being said it is an excellent effect & I am adding as a presenttain piece for stage, it can also be done as an impromptu piece.

I like this a lot. I have yet to try it, because I want to make sure that I am comfortable enough doing the mental work that I don't get flummoxed under fire. My guess is that this would work best in a situation where one is asked to "do something."
"OK," one might reply. "Do you have a deck of cards?" The use of a g*****e and a c***p in place of a k*y card is nice, though probably more of a magician-fooler than a necessity. Still, a very nice and not terribly difficult-to-execute variation. Overall: I think this is swell.

Could this possibly be done in a stage situation?

It's a worker. My review is up somewhere. There's a few reviews over at the card section and the penny for your thoughts section. It's even a few pages long. Check them out! Lots of praise in them.

After all the praise: has nobody noticed that the description is besides the truth ? That 'the only thought of card' by the spectator is not only thought of. People will say it's a only a minor detail but in my opinion it's crucial.

I agree with you -- while I wasn't displeased with the effect overall (and while I don't expect "real magic" when I purchase an effect), the "spectator thinks of a card" is really a semantic ruse given that the spectator has to then find that card and remove it from the deck.

Out of curiosity, what is a real time actualy description of what the audience sees with this effect? The descriptions are a bit too artfully vague for me to put it together in my head as to what it looks like.
Leaping Lizards!!! Who knew it was possible.

If memory serves me correctly, they are asked to think of any card, they then remove it and it is buried. You then pick up deck looking for the card you are thinking of, you remove it, it is buried. You ask them to remove the card they think you are thinking of after you ask 1 question? They remove a card.
You look through deck for their card, you remove a card. Both card are revealed to be the selected cards. Obviously, with correct patter, perhaps the audience will forget cards have been removed or you could justify WHY removed. IMHO, to make this a true worker, you need to be able to think fast |

With the words:
"...look, if your card is in the deck. (especially helpful with a borrowed deck) Take it out and show it to everybody, so the others can see, what you thought about..." (or when performed for only one person) "...remove your card and visualize it. It has to be in your mind. very deep in your mind..." It´s more the part of picking a card, than really thinking of it. Nothing was "forced" or "secretly course-put (that´s the right word? :])" Nothing was written down, nothing was said... JSBLOOM: You don´t ask a (1) question. The words: "...i don´t want the deck back. Just read my mind..." come out of nowhere, so they look at you like a big questionmark. There are no questions about the card - you just give them one little secret about "the magicians" chosen card, so that it will be easier for them, to get the right one. But to know the little secret about that card, they also have to read your mind. So there´s nothing like: OK - my card was "black" or similar. It´s all made of their thoughts. One of the best impromptu mental-card-routines i´ve seen so far. It´s like "cups and balls" You´re always one step further than the spectators...Just my opinion. Regards Goljo PS: My english isn´t the best, is it? sorry for that... |

I guess someone beat me to writing the review to this great effect..
I personally see this in my normal routine as soon as I can get it streamlined to fit my presentation. I used to do this with a marked deck, but I'm such a 'normal' deck type of guy that I loved the fact that I can now do this impromtu. It is totally impromtu. hehe. PK

I downloaded Diplopia 4 days ago and I could not be more pleased! I've invested a few hours a day working on the presentation, and I assure you it was time well spent. I performed it for the 1st time a few hours ago. I've been doing card magic for 30 years. The reactions I got from Diplopia were some of the strongest I've ever witnessed. This is an extremely clever and diabolically structured card miracle! I almost felt guilty before I announced which card I was thinking of.

Tip for practicing the routine (as I had to blow things)...
I use a marked deck and some bold side-looks ... I am still working on speed cl*****g so in the meantime I have my cards known just in case... I'm getting pretty good now so I am almost ready to toss the marked deck and go full monte... (I hate ruining an effect- especially one so great it deserves to be presented superbly!)

Yup. I had to try to it last night...not good. Oh well. I should have known better.
I was getting around 16-17 seconds yet, I buckled under pressure and it took me-well- a long time, and I think they just assumed I noted what was needed to see by the length of time. I probably did more damage to myself in that it will be a long time before I do it again as it probably should be. Back to practice and then practice some more. I did the rest of the presentation justice however. Great trick, I got too excited to show it. |

This is certainly one of those tricks wherein practice and patience pay dividends. I practiced cl*****g at least 150 times over 4 days before I even considered performing it. I could have pulled it off much earlier, but I wanted it to be fast and smooth, and that only comes after diligent repetition. Don't give up on this one. It's worth every bit of your effort!
