I saw this idea on Cannon's site.
Using a wand over the body to "prove" no keys or picks are hidden onboard. Question on quality among brands though. Has anyone bought the Pro-Scan or Secure Scan wands instead, and how to they compare? Thanks!

I currently have an audience member search me with a metal detector before I perform the Chrysalis escape. Almost everybody has been to the airport, and they are familiar with handheld metal detectors. I can't give you a brand-by-brand comparison. I bought mine on eBay. I have had one die on me already, so I am on my second one. The President of our I.B.M. Ring works for the TSA, and tells me that they break on a regular basis. If they were to make them so that they never broke, they wouldn't be cheap.
If you want advice on brands, ask somebody in the security business, or try to find a review in one of their trade magazines. Yours, Paul |

I just bought the Garrett hand held from Cannon's. I love it. It's really sensitive, it even picks up the screws in my glasses, which is something I hadn't thought of. I think it is an absolute necessity to use one of these to help put the magic back into an escape, because everyone now figures that all locks can easily be picked.

SO I watched the video of Dixie doing the steel straight jacket and he uses a metal detector before the jacket is put on (mmmm wonder what would happen if he did it AFTER the jacket was put on).
Any way – he uses a hair grip (bobby pin?) to pick the locks. Fine with all that – but how come the detector does not pick up the grip in his mouth? Is it the “wrong type of metal”? And whilst I am asking about metal types – will these things detect surgical steel? I only ask as I have about £1000 worth of the stuff in my foot / ankle |

@Dave
Take your shoe/sock off and make a joke about you being a cyborg, but since all the metal is under the skin, that won't help you much in a minute

Good grief are you trying to kill of the audience with ideas like that! Take my shoes off! No way! My feet stink! And it takes too long - my braces are a pain to get off.
But I could just hit the back of my leg with a stick and it makes a clunk so its always worth a smile. Any way back to my question about the bobby pin? |
