I would offer to go in for an hour for free. Let them see what you can do and they may think of times where you might fit in their place. I'd tell them you want them to see what you have to offer in case they have some special event in the future they might want you for. Sometimes they don't understand what it is we are offering them. Who knows, you may get some work out of it.

Alright not to beat a dead horse but if you are solely going to go on what they want currently your not getting in cause they want a band not a magician.
Your job is to sell it to them if you want to play there. Get an ambient D.J. they play background music. I have Run and Consulted for the exact same style of bar as you are describing. I know the reasons behind Bands over D.J.'s. The point is the package between you and the D.J. is more than the band can offer. You or the D.J. alone can't compete for what that bar wants. |

I'm still trying to figure out why restaurants would want a band at all, I can see a bar but a restaurant?

Bar & Grill, there are some steakhouses around here that have country and rockabilly bands that play. Nationally though, I think it's something seen more in the bar & grill scene.

It depends on the Band and the Restaurant. Doesn't matter the venue you can always find some sort of live entertainment that will be a fit. Usually the bands in high-end restaurants are low-key outfits. They play jazz or other music that can easily blend into the background if the customer choses to Ignore.
Some Higher end Bars and Grills use a band to give their joint a less laid back atmosphere. The line between restaurant and Bar gets blurred at these places and they are more social than a regular restaurant. |

I guess my problem was when I drank it was in bars with rock bands and sawdust on the floor to absorb the beer, blood, and spit. Didn't have those fancy bar and grills.

I missed the Beer blood and Spit. It was all way easier back then

Suddenly I want to go to a biker bar. Should I take my Black Tiger deck, oh, and how does Sankey material play for Hell's Angels?
Can't say that I've seen any sawdust on the floors at the bars I've been to, then again, I don't go to too many. |

Hells Angels like magic as much as any other person. The sawdust really is used to absorb stuff...

My comments were meant as a joke, would be interesting to perform for bikers though, I already see how rock bands react. I can't repost those comments here, but it definitely is an experience.
I still think hecklers are the best though. Josh |

I performed for bikers once. What I did was make normal silk routines out of bandanas and made dirty jokes and afterward I made balloons for them, some that were rather odd.

We used to get bikers in our audiences at the renaissance festivals quite frequently. They made wonderful audience volunteers. One thing for sure, you treated them with respect!
