And who is planning on going?
I checked the site, and all it has is info on the date change to November 1st.
As I didn't go last year, I don't have a clue on how much it might cost...and Sylver and I really want to go this year...
Lil help?

Last year, the cost for a three-day pass was $35. They told me I shouldn't have paid, but they couldn't get me a refund. You should email Franco. I can send his email via PM if you like; I just don't have it at hand. Travel, hotel and meals is your main cost, of course.

I hope to see the two of you there! I have been invited to bring my flea circus, so just don't stand too close to me!

Yours,

Paul

I'm almost positive that myself and the other people involved in my show are going. Actually looking forward to it. Never been but have heard great things. Thirty five isn't horrible, I'm assuming Franco only waives the entrance fee for people who are performing? Or how exactly does that work Doc? We have an engagement in the area on Saturday night, does he happen to have a schedule yet?

If you are performing, you usually get treated like a star. You pay no entrance fee, your hotel room is taken care of, and you get paid (IMAGINE THAT!). This year Franco has had some troubles and things will NOT be as they were from what I've been told. Now, if you are a performer/show owner/gaff maker/etc., be sure to let Franco know you're showing up and he may put you on the guest list. Check out http://www.sideshowcentral.com for info about the schedule and any other stuff you want to know.

I hope to be going.

I've wanted to for years, but I also wanted to work for Ward for years. Hmmm.

I think I'll be safe with this venture.

Oh yeah? Well..... ah ferget it, learn from your own trials... besides, Franco has been nothing but the best guy in the biz I've EVER met, and has also been the highest paid gig I've gotten. Couldn't say a bad thing about him even if I could (which I can't)

SSG is a great thing, and Franco is a superb human being. Organizing any kind of convention is a pain in whatever body part you wish to mention, and Franco's done well doing it.

In return, most of us thank him profusely, and appreciate what he's doing to promote the business we love.

A few complain, or try to make his life miserable. There's an old Irish phrase that comes to mind..."Bad cess on them." Before they open their mouths, let them do better, because they won't. Period.

Cheeky Monkey Sideshow will be performing, as will I as a solo.

We're really looking forward to it. . .and intimidated as hell.

That may answer your query about Ses/cess... it was a play on words. Also, keep in mind, Ses threatened to come to my house swinging a baseball bat at the afterparty of American Carny. Notice how he doesn't hang out at the Café'. You know, a wise saying goes "There are two types of people in the world who will hate you. One type are the stupid people. Within 5 years they will love you. The second type are jealous people. They will hate you until the day they die".

I quoted a mild old Irish curse, and neither meant nor implied a slam against Ses.

Harley, I know you weren't doing that, I was just taking advantage of a sweet burn. I guess I also shouldn't have aired my dirty laundry here either. I wish I could delete the post but it's too late. A lot of people would like to believe that the sideshow community is one big happy family, but there can be a lot of bad blood, especially when jealousy rears its ugly green head.

You can reach Franco by email at:

franco@thesideshowgathering.com

Remember, send only warm greetings and good vibrations! If you are negative to Franco, you will awaken the next day covered in boils! You will be able to appear in a sideshow, but not as a working act!

You can also find him on MySpace at:

http://www.myspace.com/francozoob

No, we don't all get along. And in this business, respect is a very odd thing, with many faces.

Ward Hall told me that I'm the first one to do eyehooks, since the 1930s. Ward knows this business better than anyone (even Todd). (I was recently telling Ward about a thing I'm working on, based on a vague idea in a 90-year-old book, and he started telling me about an act that did it, albeit long ago.)

There was an act doing eyehooks later than that, and it was totally gaffed (I saw color movies of it, which would suggest a date in, probably, late 40s). The gentleman used his eyes to pull his wife across the stage in a wagon. The gaff was similar in concept, to the one that's generally used for "Iron Tongue".

Mine's different. I don't switch out the hooks. WYSIWYG. A lot of folks have copied it. A couple have credited me. Most don't.

Ses is the only one who's respectfully asked my advice and permission to do it. I stipulated that he wasn't to teach it, and he's honored my request. If I was going to be in his neighborhood, I'd try to get together with him.

Erik and I have been to the last 3, but unfortunately, this one falls at the same time as the last weekend of our Haunt run, so we'll have to miss it this year. I've already talked to, and explained everything to Franco.

The best way to get on Franco's good side is to always play things straight with him. Don't say one thing to him, then something else to someone else.

Hope everyone has a great time.

Just got ahold of Franco, he'll be updating the site with more info in the next couple of days.

He seems pretty cool so far!

I can't wait to go!

Ses's health has been very bad. His heart stopped, and though the doctors were able to get it back going and save his life, he has been limited in what he can do. He is basically bed ridden for the time being. There is a history of heart problems in his family, and it looks like he has got it. It is a very serious situation for him.
