August Greetings,
We are excited to see many of you in a couple of weeks at KIDabra Conference, There are so many incredible events and surprises happening, it makes our head spin! It's not too late to come, we'll accept Advance Registrations for the conference and Optional Marketing Seminars up through Sunday, August 12th and then at the door. There are several breaking news bits and important stuff to know in this newsletter. We may touch base one more time before conference with last minute pre-conference details.

Breaking News:
As we go to press:
Welcome to our Newest KIDabra Chapter: #7- Las Vegas, with the receipt and acceptance of their Charter! Congratulations all!

KI Member Discounts
There are several Special Discounts and offers for KI Members later in the newsletter. Our thanks to the fantastic vendors who make these possible. Just use your membership number when ordering.

Hotel Update for KIDabra Conference
There are rooms available at the Music Road Inn. Call (865) 429-7700 or Toll Free: 1-866-615-6353 tell them you're with KIDabra. A note - Our room block has gone off which is customary this close in to the conference, so the $89.00 room rate is not available. However ask for discounts like AAA, etc.., plus check the Internet for specials at musicroadinn.com (Currently there is 20 percent off 5 day stay in August coupon there). There are some more expensive suites available at the Hotel, also applicable to discounts. Actually the suites are great for families, if you have several roommates, or if you just want to treat yourself.
Insider tip: One thing we've learned from traveling and staying in hundreds of hotels is to be nice and ask for discounts. You almost never get them unless you do both things.

Should the Inn and Hotel fill completely, no problem as there are 2 other hotels in the immediate vicinity and a zillion hotels in Pigeon Forge. However, remember, currently there are rooms at the Inn and a few suites left at the Hotel. Should you have any difficulties reserving a room, call us at 336-492-7870 and we'll help.

The KIDshow Auction Wednesday at Conference
Folks are getting there stuff ready to sell. Please see the guidelines at kidabra.org scroll down the left hand side buttons and click on Auction. You'll find all the pertinent info there. Remember if you're selling you may bring up to 8 items. If you're buying it's Cash only as we go.

2007 KIDabra conference is in full ramp up, and it is nothing short of amazing, see The 2007 Schedule posted at kidabra.org

We can't wait! Please take a moment today and register for KIDabra Conference 2007, make your hotel reservations, travel plans and we'll see you at KIDabra Conference!

KIDabra Conference Lecture Spotlights

1. Rick Hubbard : The King of Kazoo
Rick was with us for the first time last year and presented a fantastic breakout. He's back, and you're going to want to spend time with this amazing guy.
Rick Hubbard began his career in family entertainment in 1987 after a decade of touring with a popular country-rock band. He started performing in Hilton Head Island, SC, in the summer of 1987 mixing music, comedy, juggling, and magic into a show for families on vacation. For a grand finale, Rick gave away kazoos to everyone in the audience and led a marching kazoo band. Over the years the show evolved into a music and comedy show featuring kids from the audience on stage and always the Grand Finale Kazoo Band.

Rick has performed at festivals, theaters, resorts, schools, churches, camps, cruise ships, and community events from coast to coast over the last twenty years giving away over one million kazoos. Highlights included performing at the Seattle International Children's Festival, Disney World, Busch Gardens, and The Kennedy Center.

In 2000 Rick's company, Kazoobie, Inc., acquired the assets of the last remaining American plastic kazoo manufacturer and created "Kazoobie Kazoos." Rick's high-quality imprinted kazoos sold over 600,000 units through http://www.kazoos.com last year.

As President of Kazoobie Kazoos, Rick still performs full-time doing over 150 shows each year including a new show just developed for ladies of the Red Hat Society. Well into his second million kazoos, it's no wonder that Rick Hubbard is known as "The King of Kazoo."

Join Rick Friday Night at the KIDabra Library Sessions for The Grand Finale Kazoo Band

Believe or not libraries love noisy kazoos. And a kazoo band finale will work with any type of show, not just music shows. Everyone loves a free "take home" gift from the show, and it's a perfect chance to imprint your message for every audience member.

Rick Hubbard will perform the grand finale that's made him famous - the kazoo band - sharing the set-up, organization, jokes, and music so you can see how to organize and produce your very own kazoo band finale. Developed during over twenty years of performing and used to create kazoo bands as large as 30,000, Rick's kazoo band design will work in almost any situation. And he's giving it all away along with FREE KAZOOS for everyone Friday night at the Live Library Session. A Don't Miss Finale!

Also, Rick will have a booth in the Vendor's Room and be sure to read about his break out below.

2. More Conference News
Your Daily Conference Hosts
New this year! Enjoy your hosts each day guiding the proceedings, announcing lectures and making announcements. They are: Thursday - Trixie Bond , Friday - Ken Scott, Saturday - Sammy Smith

Friday Afternoon Breakouts:
Rick Hubbard - Own Your Personality / Advanced Kazoo

What are you really selling as an entertainer? The latest magic trick you've just bought? The new flaming torches you've learned to juggle? The clever song you just learned? Aren't you really selling the only thing you have that no one else has? And isn't that Your PERSONALITY? What would you do if you arrived for a show are realized all of your equipment was not with you? Could you entertain for 30 minutes? Could you do a whole show with just a kazoo? What is it about your personality that makes people willing to pay you to exhibit it? How do you develop, crystallize, accentuate your personality? In short, how do you "own" your personality? And why is it so valuable? Will you get free kazoos and learn advanced techniques in this same break-out? Can a break-out session be described entirely with questions? Will you come and discover the answers?

Tim Sonefelt - Powerful Personality Pieces
Each time you perform it is critical to establish your personality at the beginning of the show. Join Tim as he shares some of his favorite personality pieces, often show openers, and we learn why it's so important to let the audience know who we are.
For instance, Tim teaches an opener from a Character Education show that establishes the direction of the program and Tim's fun personality, plus audience expectation, all in one piece. Reap tons more ideas to help let your audiences know who you are and set the pace for what follows. A wonderful companion break-out to Rick's Breakout above!

Pick any 2 breakouts to attend Friday afternoon. Warning: It's going to be tough, this is all good stuff and 6 to choose from. Along with Rick and Tim, learn from Breakouts like:

  • Chris Capehart's Teach-In
  • Aye Jaye- Booking and Rebooking
  • Jozo Bozo: How to Put Your Show in a Case
  • Gary Shelton: Be Prepared to Ad-lib Workshop
  • Tim Sonefelt - Powerful Personality Pieces (Mentioned above)
  • Rick Hubbard - Own Your Personality / Advanced Kazoo (Mentioned above)

Our newsletter reader Salil corrected my mangling of his name in the July Newsletter. He is Salil Kumar Kundu (popular as Solyl Kundu among magicians around the world) from Kolkata, India.

Also David Kaye reminded me that Jinger Kalin's name starts with a J and not a G.
Thanks Solyl and David!

PET PRESTO RABBIT PRODUCTION
As much as I try to quit making the Pet Presto Production I just can’t seem to stop. I thought I had sold the last 3 and then days after the last one was gone a nice lady called and was so disappointed she missed it. I hope she is reading this now.
Anyway we’re making 3 more for now to see how long they will last. If they go fast we may just make 3 more. By the way, Chris Frings has an article in the upcoming KIDabra Yearbook of how he uses the Pet Presto. He actually owns two of them just in case something happens to one. I love customers like that. It will be back on our website soon, however, there is a slight $10 price increase from our previous production due to rising material costs. Only $210. BUT WAIT, if you're a KIDabra member you can get one for only $190. During August only. Drop me an email for details at BarryMitchell@aol.com

What if there was a place and a group of people that existed to meet the special needs of folks who perform for kids and families? What if there was a place to motivate you, educate you and point you in the right direction? What if there was a place that helped person after person build successful performance careers? What if all of this really existed? A place so good that your competitors won't tell you they're a member because they want to keep all the resources for themselves.

It does, it is KIDabra International!
