I assume I have 2 females as there are eggs laid but they are not fertalized. They will sit on the eggs for a couple of weeks and then abandon them. Usually just a dried yolk by this time.
They've been doing this for months now so there are always eggs.... will they stop or is this normal? |

Welcome to the world of dove eggs. They will continue to lay eggs throughout their lifetime. Even single females will lay eggs.

Thanks Dave,
I assume it's still safe to work them even if they have an "egg in the oven"? Also wondering if it's just best to remove the eggs immediately or let them go through the sitting? |

You can use them if they have an egg inside but you must be careful. You don't want to break the egg inside of her. You'll know because the yolk will run out of the vent but it's dangerous for the bird. It's sometimes difficult to tell if there is an egg there though. You can run your finger down the breast bone from the head to the just under it's chest. You'll feel the breast bone split like a wish bone. If there is an egg, you'll feel a lump just around the point where the bones splits. Do this right after they lay an egg. That way you'll know what it feels like without an egg. Taking the eggs away is up to you. As long a they are sitting on them, they won't lay any more. You can also buy fake eggs and that usually prevents them from laying. They aren't the smartest birds in the world and can't tell the difference between a real egg and a wooden one.
