Why do magic dealers only sell hand made baseballs for final loads? Why doesn't anyone sell regular 7.5" baseballs? These have a diameter of 2.39" (according to Bill Palmer) and should fit in cups with an inside diameter of 2.5". I would buy some 7.5" baseballs but I can only find them online in sets of a dozen for about $40 plus shipping.

That's not a bad price.
An "official" baseball is 9" in diameter. I thought a kids baseball was 8" in diameter.

It's not a bad price for a dozen baseballs, but I would only use 3 or 4 of them in my routine. I would much rather pay about $5 for an individual 7.5" baseball.
The only downside of the 7.5" baseballs is that they have the brand name on them (like all baseballs), whereas handmade baseballs are plain white with red stitching. |

Are they for cups?
If so, what cups are these for?

They are training baseballs.
It might be possible to paint over the trademarks, but why do it? Real baseballs have trademarks, too. Nobody will criticise you for using a real baseball.

I'm sure if you ask around you can find two other people willing to split a set with you.
Each of the other two pays something like $15 for a set of four, plus shipping of course. That way everyone wins, and you're not stuck with a bunch of balls you can't use.

What kind of cups are you going to use them in?

I can buy (Real) baseballs or 2 bucks a piece. My Bosco's are the only cups I have had that will hold them.
I could sell you a few, but shipping would cost more than the ball.....

So I found some links to 7.5" baseballs by the dozen. Here they are:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B......ef=nosim http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B......ef=nosim http://www.allaroundsportsllc.com/Produc......de=OL7.5 And the cheapest one is this: http://www.baseballexp.com/catalog/produ......tId=1888 But when you zoom in, the ball says 9in on it. I hope they took a picture of the wrong ball because the description says it's 7.5". Quote:

They are (sort of) rare so I can't find them in any sporting goods stores near my house, and I live right outside of San Jose, California so I'm in a huge suburb with a bunch of stores. I think I will have to order them online if I want to have them. Also, these balls are for my Bazar cups. |

Also, do you think the stitching will protrude from the balls and make them too big to fit inside of the cups?

The best thing will be for me to try various balls in the Bazar cups that I have.

Okay:
I have tried the 8" baseballs in the Bazar cups. That was Bizarre. They didn't fit. The 7.5" training baseballs fit just fine. In fact, they were a bit loose. My recommendation -- use lacrosse balls. They are a little bigger than a 7.5" baseball, and they look HUGE on top of the bazar cups.

Is the 7.5 inch a circumference measurement or diameter measurement?
|

Circumference. Baseballs are usually categorized by circumference.
The smallest are the "cork balls" that are used in St. Louis. They are 6 5/16" or 6 1/2" in circumference. Next you have the 7.5" baseballs then 8" baseballs then 8.5" baseballs then 9" baseballs (regulation size) 9" baseballs are available in many colors and finishes. There are also softballs which are 11" circumference and 12" circumference. Then there are the Autograph baseballs that are about 22" circumference, but they are sometimes hard to find. Dick's Sports is a good source for unusual baseball sizes.

Oh thanks for the information, Bill. I already use lacrosse balls as final loads. I thought that lacrosse balls are only 0.01" larger in diameter than 7.5" baseballs. Do you think lacrosse balls are more impressive than 7.5" baseballs in the Bazar cups?
Also this is off topic, but does anyone have the Bill Palmer style wand from Tabman? If so, is it good for the Vernon Wand Spin? |

Matt,
I have the Tabman wand. I'm still working on my Vernon Wand Spin, so I can't say how it works in comparison to other wands, but I don't think it's as heavy as the Mercury Wand. My understanding is that it's easier to learn the spin with a heavier wand, but that you can do the spin with any weight wand. But I can say ithe Bill Palmer style wand is a great looking wand. The feel of the wood is great. And the natural wood color and the patina of the brass accents goes very well with well aged copper cups. |

Lacrosse balls have a lot of variation. In fact, you should take one of your cups with you when you purchase balls. The sizes I gave for the balls on that list I put up long ago were done by dividing the circumference by pi on a scientific calculator.
