There is something inherently interesting in seeing supernatural effects. If your in your study relaxing, and a book floats across the room, you would be gob smacked, but if a magician was there, showing you the same thing, you would not be so impressed. So if you want to create strong magic, best be an invisible magician!
So what about the curtain goes up but the audience can’t see you, obviously because you are the invisible magician. The magical effects that you perform they see! What do you think? Crap? Old? Old Crap? P.S. They can hear you speak I guess.

Something unusual draws attention. I doubt most people would use the word interesting in that situation though, at least not initially. Many people would scream and run out of the room.
I think seeing the magician is a good thing. In the context of a show, the magician could be invisible, but it's poor press to have an photo of your invisible self in the newspaper. It's good to be seen.
Humans make life so interesting. Do you know that in a universe so full of wonders, they have managed to create boredom. Quite astonishing.

I liked the invisible man film. To see some of those effects live might be good.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPPqiQIeiag :) You guys make people vanish and reappear but never do they seem to do anything whilst they are invisible. Like ride a bike and so on.

What's your purpose in doing this?
There are lots of ways to present an invisible character onstage.

I have never seen an invisible magician. I would not do it, I am card is all but I like to see something different.
As a fan: My purpose would be to see a seemingly supernatural effect that was amusing. An invisible magician or magician who made someone invisible who I only knew existed by the effects he had on things would do. When I go to see magic I am there for one purpose which is to be amused. I am not there looking for mystical meaning or some profound spiritual message for mankind or the meaning of life.

The invisible magician concept is often used in the bizare type of magic, also in those who do the spirit shows, etc. I guess it depends if your intenet is to entertain or to scare the daylights out of your audience.

Thinking about it the reason magicians use comedy with their magic is so people don’t get too fearful. It’s something of a battle: on one side we don’t want scare people but on the other hand we want create strong effects which are naturally scary because of their nature.
In the book example above, as Bill said “Many people would scream and run out of the room.” that is only if a magician was not there performing the effect. I suggest that the magician being there does not entirely stop that fear but reduces it to a giggle. The less the magician is seen to do physically to cause the effect the stronger the effects are. In a way I think all magicians have an invisible assistant named magic. I am proposing here that the “invisible assistant” could be more of a character than a notion. What do you think to that?

Thanks
Have you ever seen a magician transform himself into an invisible state, perform effects while in the invisible state, then return to the visible state? What about the magician makes just his hand invisible and moves things with the invisible hand to prove it is so?

I think that if your in your study relaxing, and a book floats across the room, you would be freaked out, and yes, gob smacked. If a magician was there, showing you the same thing, you would correctly assume it's a trick, and admittedly not be quite so startled.
If you were sitting in the audience of a magic show, for some magician that you know is good, and 'magical' things start to happen even though you can't see the magician, I think the effects can only be as strong as when you can see the magician. There would be no doubt in your mind tht the magic and the magician you had paid to see would be related. Just my opinion. |

I would more impressed to see a deck of cards shuffled by an Invisible Magician than a visible one.

Folks, look at old movies and early chromakey experiments and black art shows.
Been done for the most part. And then consider how difficult it is to create an invisible dog onstage and to make folks care about the dog. I strongly suggest beginning with the dramatic premise and work out from there.

Old movies or new are not live magic and I haven't seen early chromakey experiments and black art shows. What are black art shows?

I hope I'm not saying too much, but I think that the making of this (non-magic) video makes use of the black art principle in some places :
