What's up Everyone,

I was interested in using a duck in my show, I wanted to know if anyone knew the breed of duck that Anthony Reed used on America's Got Talent?
Or the One Jason Byrne used Years ago on Worlds Greatest Magic?
The ducks at my local bird shop are Oversized and ugly lol and I'm sure it's because the reason is because they're different breeds Smile

If anyone could help that would great.

The advantage of Pekin ducks is that the world is full of them and they all look alike. Here they run $6-10 in small quantities. But you really gain by raising and imprinting your own.

My wife Lucy uses geese. They are considerably larger but very easy to train and make good pets and body guards. Always start with babies.

Rent-A-Duck! Try that on Google.

In the 60s, I had an office in New York. Ranch living makes showbiz much easier to take.

Lucy also works with live unicorns! We keep three. (Star Dancer, Star Duster and Star Drifter) In the city that would be a challenge.

I use white call ducks in my act they are about the size of a mallard and don't get any bigger. I have used them for the past five years and they work great. I used to use pekin ducks but they can get big depending on the type and when they do, they don't fit in a lot of props. The White call ducks are hard to find. I had mine shipped from New York to Iowa where I live! Hope that helps.

The KING of duck magic is Frank Brents. Lance Burton publicly credits Frank for getting him into magic back home in Kentucky when they were both youngsters.

In the New York City area, you can connect with Frank through Monday Night Magic. There is a store that he goes to that sells such ducks for only $6. They'll take 'em back when you are done with 'em. (No refunds, of course.)

David,

I have miss placed the contact info for the people I get my white call ducks from. Give me a day or two and I will find it. I know I have it in a file. I just got two new drakes this spring from them and they are getting used to show business. I will get back to you shortly.

Thanks,

David,
The people I get my White call ducks from are Floyd & Ann Inman (not positive on last name) however, you can reach them by email at: Floyd5085@aol.com They can send you pictures of their ducks and I am on my second pair from them. They are small and fairly tame. You will need to work with them a bit and when they are not in props they can be a bit noisy! They do well in props. I use mine in a duck bucket and Where do the ducks go? and they do very well. The audiences love them. I hope that helps!

TRUE! I would rank it with working with cattle on stage. (But, of course I grew up in the rodeo arena!)

Hi Dave,
As far as ducks are concerned I prefer geese. I have about 28 ducks but I don't like to use them in magic because I don't like their smell. I'm not talking about excrement here, which is almost universally objectionable in any creature, but body odor. In ducks this is a mixture of fishiness and pond mud. they can't help it, it's just the way they're made. They are , however, very sweet natured, tractable animals if you spend time with them. I don't have any information about Call ducks, but there is a small duck, called the Buff duck which is only about 7 lbs as an adult. The female would weigh less, probably. The duck would not be white, of course, but the females would be very light colored. Bob has already given you our source and I'm sure they would be happy to send you a catalog.

I had a wonderful goose, a Chinese goose, who did a tea party act with me. She would drink her tea, jump down from her chair, remove her blue napkin from around her neck and pace the footlights. The audience, most of whom did not discriminate duck from goose, would go wild, yelling "AFLAC".

The secret of having a performing animal partner, is spending time with him or her every day. If you are only vanishing or making the animal appear then just having one who won't bite you is good enough I guess. Really, I just like spending the time with them, and it pays off in audience response.
