I just got back from the Abbott's get together. Here's a short clip of the last thing I performed in my act. I love performing in this close up contest because of the fun atmosphere. It's a contest but it's held in a bar so it feels more like I'm just hanging out and performing for the fun of it. I'm honored that I took second place this year.
Keep in mind that this is the end of the act and I had just done some humor about my deafness before the video started shooting. So some of the jokes might not seem appropriate without hearing what happened before this was shot. http://youtube.com/watch?v=sBcQWdXEorQ Ron Jaxon |

I wish you would have had other things on the video.
Maybe it is just me, but the balloon swallow has become the most overused trick since Oragami and Snowstorm. I have seen literaly dozens of them on video. I assume the other things you did were great because you took 2nd. That is why I wish more of them were on the tape. (that was a compliment by the way)

Thanks Danny.
Here's the deal. While I was at the get together I spent time just shooting things that are happening during the week. I plan to put them all together and make a sort or mini documentary. Nothing fancy. Just maybe a short 5 minute video. I just thought it would be neat to show to those magicians who've never been to this convention a little of what it's like. So I just shot a few seconds of each performer in the contest and I'll edit them together. When it was my turn to perform I handed my camera to another magician and just asked if they can shoot a couple of minutes of my act. I had to change a lot of my act at the last minute. Last year I performed a floating rose and I was asked to do it again. But I couldn't because they decided to put a bright spot light on the stage this year. That took out my IT work. Oh well, I had fun as always. Ron Jaxon |

Nice job on that, Ron. I always enjoy doing the balloon swallow. But I particularly like the way you end yours. It also seems like you had a nice, relaxed rapport with the audience. Thanks for sharing.

Sorry, dude. That was disgusting - even when Steve Bedwell did it.
I generally like you and your style but this was not cool! I would respectfully request that you take it off. I did not give it any stars and would not leave a comment. I say this with love and respect. I do look forward to seeing (other) more from you. You have skill and talent, no need to stoop into the gutter. |

I don't think this trick is dirty or inappropriate in and of itself. No more than sword swallowing. Great ending Ron.

Only certain people will think the thing that was commented on. It's all a matter on their thought process. Most people see and think about that fact that I'm eating a balloon that's way to long to be eaten and they're thinking about the comedy aspect of the performance. And it gets a lot of laughs.
I'm one of those performers that don't feel everyone should like what I do. I hope they do but I don't expect everyone to. If I'm in a show with other performers I expect some to like me better and some to like them better. In my opinion it's a down flaw of magic. People either like magic or they don't. Because there isn't as much variety (that they know of) and most magicians try to appeal to everyone. Where as other forms of entertainment they'll have their choices. I like rock but not country music. I like comedy but not horror movies. Sorry, I'm going toward another topic here. Anyway, I had loads of fun at the get together. Thanks everyone for your comments. Ron,
AWESOME work at Curlys. Thank you so much for using my son Jordan in your contest act. Do you have a clip of him helping you? It was a pleasure meeting you. Plus, we both now have won the Curly's close-up contest now. Keep the magic going! Joseph Young

Unfortunately I don't have any more clips of my act then what's on the video at the beginning of this post. I have some footage of your performance along with everyone else's who was in the contest. But it's only for 10 - 15 seconds each.
It'll take a while for me to put all the video clips together. But I basically just went around during the get together and took short shots of the different events and things going on around town. I'll put them together in a mini documentary as soon as I can. The video will start with a shot of the "Welcome to Colon Michigan - Magic Capitol of the world" sign. Then I'll show a few of the businesses around town with magic names (Magic Café, Magic Cleaners, etc..). A shot of the sign for the Curly's bar will be fallowed but short clips of magicians performing inside the bar including the contest. I even got some footage of main street covered with playing cards and I asked a cop about it.. I just thought this short video would be nice to show to those magicians on the Café that have read about the event but have never been to it. I'll get it together as soon as I can. Tell Jordan I said hi and thanks. He was awesome. Ron Jaxon |

I was their to see Rons performance. I have seen him perform this a few times. It might not seem like it but it KILLS! Remember this is a bar not a boy scout troop meeting. I wouldn't like to see him perform it in a family type show, but this show is in a bar and starts at 10:00 at night and goes on from there. Steller performance my friend! By the way, my favorite was the line about being def and then having that huge rubber ear pop out. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time...
Take care... Mike
