Glad you asked -- back when I did balloons at fairs, I used several ideas to help out :
You know that there will be a big circle around you, everyone will want a balloon and -- surprise-- some of the adults will be a bit short because their child is next. First off, take care of yourself. Setup in the shade, bring water, take breaks, use sunscreen Second -- going faster won't help. It should be a law of physics that the faster you make 'em, the more people will want 'em. Go slow, chat with people, entertain. Third -- control the lines. Have the kids line up on one side only, and repeat that that is the line for balloons and who to get behind for your balloon. ( maybe make line markers with a 30" dowels in a base, with rope along the tops -- like stanchions.) Fourth -- get a pump. really. five -- if you're busking, have a regular tips & free line and a have a priority $5 line -- and go there first. dave |

Second tip is really true, I though I could satisfy them if I go faster but they just came back for more and more...
Thanks for the tips Dave. Mishel.

Ah, shucks...
Balloon line management will test your crowd controll skills like nothing else. Does anyone have ideas for how to do 'line markers" for ballooning? Dave |

I tried barbed wire, but it didn't work. Balloons kept popping.
Seriously though, BalloonHQ has some ideas. Plastic chain and PVC stands (made from 3/4" pipe and fittings) from Lowes or Home Depot. Although this gives you yet one more thing to carry and setup. peace, phill

I use foam mats that interlock. I also contemplated using carpet runners.

I like to think I'm entertaining to watch while I twist so I like my line to curve a little so everyone can see. For the most part people can line up if reminded every so often. I sometimes use a piece of rope or chain just lying on the ground, I've also used duct-tape.

Comedy writer,
Great advice & you might want to change tip #5 to tip #1 (joking of course). |
