(note: just read this thread. To the fellow who buys 'nothing from Magic Makers'. This isn't produced by Magic Makers genius. I also noticed over the last twenty years that everyone who does a muscle pass, with few exceptions, once they have it down think theirs is the best one going. Jay does it as well as anyone I've seen except for his little jag with the lower hand which detracts from the move.)
Title: The Muscle Pass with Jay Noblezada Medium: DVD Arena: Table, parlor, close up coin magic Available: Any shop, Penguin Magic, distributed by Murphys Magic Supplies The Muscle Pass has been around for many years and is basically a technique for causing a coin to be forced out of the palm and to either fly into the other hand or into a pocket. Most who do it just fire it from their palm upward into their other hand so it looks like the coin is defying gravity. This is the kind of thing the street assassins and hallway hit men live for, they can stand in the hall of their school, face blank, they bling shining in the light, and fire a coin up into their hand and then wander off imaging they are hearing the screams of girls behind them. It does look cool and it isn’t easy to do. You have to develop the muscle in your hand and get the knack but once you have it and can do it well it really is a neat looking thing to do. The production quality of the video is very good both in sound and camera work. It is a bit dark, very popular among the children these days, but you can see what you need to see. Penguin does a pretty good producing videos. Jay Noblezada, who has the distinction of irritating me more than any other magician of any note, is the presenter and instructor on this DVD. To come clean I do not do the muscle pass even remotely well but I’ve been around it a couple decades and seen different guys do it well and how it can be used in magic. I was expecting Jay to show the move after the required performance for the squealing masses in Vegas then explain it and end with that which irritates me “Da Muscle Pass….BOO!”. I was wrong on all accounts except for the performing for the squealing masses. He performed for one dorky kid in a white shirt and white hat that could be the missing love child of John and David from the L & L vids. Jay does a very good job on the Muscle Pass as well as the other sleights he shows. I do have a problem with his belief that the bottom hand should move up when doing it, I think it shouldn't move at all. His instruction is complete and covers the type of coin or poker chip you use, the placement in the hand, the execution, angles, how clothing affects visibility, the whole nine yards. Jay then goes into teaching different routines that utilize the Muscle Pass, many I’ve never seen before. While some are stretching it a bit I was pleased with the quality of the routines and the instruction. The use of the Muscle Pass for coin through glass table or through a bottle was new to me and it looked very good. I was pleasantly surprised about how good a job Jay did with the complete project and he never once said ‘boo’ to the camera. For those keeping score credits were given during the DVD and also listed at the end. I am now removing Jay from my list of ‘magicians I’d like to see becoming mimes’, so both he and the mimes are safe. Good job and a better DVD that I expected. |

The effects on the DVD and lecture notes are far beyond your abilities. (They require mastery of the mechanic's grip.) It would only break your heart. Sincerely, Darwin Ortiz.......(This post has got to be in my top 5.) |

However, what he was performing was a ridiculous version that would basically expose the work to any spectator with a brain. And, of course, he repeated it. And the icing on the cake is that these bad ideas are put on a downloadable demo clip. If in an effort to sell more DVDs, you create a presentation that is just awful to the point of exposing a great secret, and then explain it well, it still sucks. If, instead, the history of a trick was studied, one might find out why things are done and not done by learning from others. Then this info could/would get passed down to the next magician so they would/could know what to do and what not to do for a given trick.
