All I will say is that those who doubt the real world-ness of this are totally wrong. I saw Seb perform this at least half a dozen times. Bars, restaurants, and my home. Smoked me every time... Smoked EVERYONE every time... I guess we should have watched it on YouTube to better appreciate it.

I just bought the book to learn this handling and I love the method. Mr. Owen calls this SOBW in his book. Anyone know what that stands for???

To answer my own question, I cantacted Mr. Owens and he told me that the answer is in the last paragraph of the routine in the book. ( And it is! )

A stupid question perhaps; but for those familiar with an eight card behind the back color separation of cards. ( totally impromptu and ungimmicked) Called Aces Of Eight ( I believe appeared in the bound volumes of the Phoenix) Would this be considered a sight unseen version of OIl And water, if executed below table level, and brought topside for the reveal? perhaps the hardcore card workers here could clarify this for me.

KOtah- the ever curious

Hello,

Given the level of interest in this routine I thought you might be interested to know that the lovely folks at TVMagic.co.uk are about to release my Ultimate Oil and Water, a new DVD giving the most in depth explanation of this routine to date. It also features additional handlings and variations, including some which I have never before revealed.

Also the guys at TVMagic.co.uk are doing a couple of pre-release offer at the moment if you buy the DVD before December 15th, including a special deal if you pre-order the new DVD of my lecture at last year's MacMillan International Convention at the same time.

You can check out the video trailer here:

Wow.

Oil and Water reminds me of a trick that is also called Oil and Water that I paid a magician to learn when I was about 10 years old.

This one truely brings back memories and amazes me, thanks for the post. The one that I learned was based off of a sleight of hand shuffle.

Check out Juan Tamariz's wonderful new book "Verbal Magic" for an O&W performed by the spectator (or a group of spectators) in their own hands.
It's all in the reflexes.
