There are many things you can do with scotch and soda besides the basic effect that comes with it. The biggest factor is the quality of the gaff between manufactors. It still gets great reactions when I preform it.

I will probably get kicked out of the fraternity for this... BUT.
Scotch and Soda is great, but I have found that I like to just reach into my pocket and pull something out. A penny and a dime seem less conspicuous than a half dollar and an english penny. Your mileage may vary. Peace, Parson

My S&S is from Houdini's. I was unaware of the differing qualities: I'm pretty sure this one is of lower end quality. People who've seen me screw up Nickels to Dimes understand the trick right away (Nickles to Dimes was one of my first tricks I purchased).

By the way, Mike, my S&S came with a book of 55 tricks, some are better than others. Thanks for the tip.
