It is too bad people reacted as they did. If a Catholic priest had sprinkled holy water, there would not have been such an uproar. Santeria is no more satanic than is Christianity, and there have probably been more people killed in the name of Christianity than in the name of Santeria. People fear things they do not understand, but decisions should not be made on the basis of fear and lack of understanding.

Also, I wonder if Baba had anything to do with the incident. Smile

They just should have hired some mercenaries to deal with the gang influences and drug dealers - then there might have been medals

I think I was just trying not to be one of the victims! Ya can't be too careful, ya know! An awful lot of 'em are armed!

Besides, I claim it was academic caution. By saying "probably," I will not be called upon to prove my point by supplying the data!

Blasphemers !!

For your transgressions and indiscretions against God and all that is holy, Ye shall all die horrible, painful, torturous deaths by our hands, in the name of our loving and merciful Lord Jesus Christ ! ..

yeah, that makes sense ..
Don't just blame Christians though. Islam is no picnic either, and neither is Judism, particularly the orthodox stuff.

Funny how Judeo-Christian-Islamic religion paints Paganism as barbaric, with human sacrifice, et al, when that was probably extremely rare, judging by archaeological data. By comparison, I think Paganism has been far more humane throughout history.
Just hanging out with the rest of my fellow dregs.

Myst, that is true. The Big Three are the most barbaric among the "major" religions. It is as undeniable as it is unfortunate. None are completely blameless, but it is curious that the ones that talk most about mercy and forgiveness are the worst offenders. The often prescribed penalty of stoning is an very humane way of executing someone, isn't it?

Beware of the followers of the sky god. They eat the sky god's son's flesh and drink his son's blood every chance they get! Upon their chest they wear an instrument of torture and death to remind them. Anything these true believers do is forgiven, but disbelievers will be punished forever in fire with not a drop of water to quench their thirst! All of this happens while the true believers watch on and are prevented from doing anything. The sky god has little confidence in himself and requires the true believers to shout his praises day and night for eternity. The believers are eternally grateful that they are not part of the ***ed, doomed forever for what they do not know, not for their actions. Yes this is a merciful, loving religion!

A fellow named J.C. who calls Coast to Coast AM (what used to be Art Bell's show) says that unbelievers will be cast into "a pit of boiling sewage." J. C. appears to be a real sweetheart.

http://www.pitofboilingsewage.com (It appears to no longer exist). My favorite is, of course, http://www.godhatesfags.com. These are the folks who picket and otherwise interrupt funerals of soldiers who have died in Iraq, as well as the people mentioned in the name of the website. Good Christians, all.

Bill,
That God Hates Fags/Sweden/America/Canada is . . .. um . .. interesting. I bet the author has gay tendencies. How else could someone be so vitriolic? The sad thing is he is correctly quoting the Bible, in context (or the ones I looked up).

Yes, I'm sure it is a cover for latent tendencies.

Yeah, and this explains a lot about Western civilization. All this violence is OK, but don't you dare think about sex! Of course, the Koran is not too different about the violence, but it does offer 72 virgins! (They don't tell you the virgins all look like your spinster Aunt Minnie!)

Everybody seems to have missed the most bizarre part of this story. Here is the sentence copy and pasted directly from the article.

[A Los Angeles man who identified himself as a high priest of Santeria, Frank Discussion, said chickens are commonly used in cleansing ceremonies. "All the negativity passes into the chicken," he said.]

Am I reading this right? Was the high priests name "Frank Discussion"?

Over the years I've met an African American woman named "Nonchalant", Kaleidoscope artist, Mr. Don Doaks son "Okie Doak", and home builder, Jacob Lears daughter,"Chanda Lear".
But I think a santaria high priest named "Frank Discussion" is the freakiest one of all.
My mom says I'm reprehensible, I think I'm perfectly hensible.

Thad...one might as well believe in Popeye. Wondering about an afterlife is like being concerned as to what happens to him when the projector is turned off...regardless of the belief...it really doesn't matter.

Yeah, Egregore, I noticed that and then forgot it (I guess because I was engrossed in the rest of the story). That is an interesting name if it is real. Maybe it is a clue that the story is BS. It can't be, though; Baba brought the chicken!
