If you have missed this you might like to read the sample issue of Jheff's Journal of the Mind with stuff from Tillar:

Trio is absolutely fabulous. Three very well put together presentations. Max Maven described his work as a post-graduate course in mentalism.

ANYTHING Jack puts out is simply superb and highly recommended. Watch for a major release that Jack will be putting out at Mindvention. I saw an advanced copy and it's GREAT!!!

Perhaps I was unclear. I am talking about Jack's newly released book "The B** Book" that is listed on Jack's site. if there is something else he is working on, I apologize for my confusion.

No Problem, I think they're talking about a newer release that he's going to sell at mindvention first. I'm going to email him and ask him. Thanks!

Just to clarify, Jack has released new, re-designed perfect-bound editions of both Trio and The Blister Book, the latter having some last minute new material added from the PEA exclusive that was released earlier this year. Both are available now and are being widely distributed. I certainly carry it (and this is intended FYI, not a blatant plug) and so do other dealers, as well as Jack.
Jack also released a few individual effects. Among them are The Virtual Gambler which is a wonderful routine for larger audiences and Sports Card Sting, my personal favorite among his recent releases and an effect which utilizes his Assumption Swindle principle. -- Jheff http://www.MarketplaceoftheMind.com
Marketplace of the Mind PARIMENTAL, a 200 page exploration of a classic Martin Gardner principle, is now available!!

Title: TRIO Complete Acts for the Mentalist by Jack Kent Tillar
Medium: Book, soft cover Arena: Stand up mentalism, parlor, stage Available: Any shop, Distributed by Murphys Magic Supplies Jack Kent Tillar is best known in magic as the inventor of the blister routine that appeared in Tarbell 7. He is an accomplished mentalist who has spent his entire career in the entertainment business in one capacity or another and most of you have experienced his work in TV or film without knowing it. In TRIO Jack, if I may be so bold to use his first name but I just love the name Jack, gives complete instructions for you to perform three mentalism acts with very little in the way of props and nothing needing to be dragged around. The acts are: The Naked Mentalist: A thirty minute act with no props (other than common items) and no gimmicks. This act is made up of seven routines that can also be done as stand alone pieces. The Intimate Mentalist A six piece show that can be carried in your pocket. This is a salute to the style of Dr. Jaks. The Fund Raising Mentalist A version of Dunningers mind reading act that is very easy. Also how to set up to do readings after the show to again increase the take by the charity and…you. What I really liked about this book, and it may not have been the intention of Mr. Tillar, is it is a very nice compilation of old school mentalism that has been tried and polished over the past few decades. You would have to get a number of books to have access to these routines but here they are all together and the reason they are in this book is because they are dang good routines. I would be reading a routine and it would hit me “Oh man, I forgot about this one! This is a good presentation though…..”. The routines make use of switches, one ahead, instant stooges, all the good stuff that makes mentalism work. Clearly if you are looking for ready to go mentalism shows you’ll find this book of great value. If you want access to the old gems of mentalism this is a great source, it is almost like a greatest hits volume. I found this to be of great value and I’m working on putting together a quick mentalism show using the material and look forward to the opportunity to use the pieces. I like the idea of a book with all good material rather than some that come out that might have a workable piece in with lots of creative yet unusable stuff. Well done Jack! |
