So sad to see this posted by Martin Frost in the IJA forum earlier this evening...

"Folks, I'm sad to say that Art Jennings, a founder of the IJA and Chairman Emeritus, has died today in an assisted living home in Pittsburgh. Art loved juggling and its artists, and he in return was loved by jugglers around the world. He was 94. "

Rest in Peace, Art...

I remember eating lunch with Art once, who was a great story teller. At that lunch Art told me that the tiger has the worst breath of all circus animals, and he remembered an elephant that had a fondness for wiskey, so when certain roust abouts got close this elephant she would frisk him, take the hip flask out of his pocket and empty it. The last time I saw Art at a convention he spent a day talking to my wife, Art liked the ladies.

Art took me aside at my 1st IJA juggling convention in Youngstown, Ohio(I think it was'75)and dried my tears ... I was distraught and wanted to go back home to Nashville after walking inside the small gym at the YMCA and seeing what a REAL juggler could do ... he told me that entertainers and jugglers are like tigers and elephants ... now I know what he meant ... I wonder which one is which?

And yes Art liked the ladies ... a little too much ... if you ever talked to either Ruth (1st wife) or Carol(2nd wife) or Cheryl(Harry Lind's neighbor) or Ida Weeks (Larry's cousin) or Bill Barvin's wife (they were on a "break") or that waitress at Alice's in Houston or 2 of the 3 Wilford Mae Trio (the other one was a guy or he woulda done him too I'll bet)... shameful, really.

Yeah, I miss him ... yeah, I do.

Welcome It is a honor to have the legendary butterfly man here at the magic Café. Speaking of the ladies Art, and I showed each other pictures of the women in our lives. I showed him a picture of my wife, and he showed me a picture of a beautiful blonde. Art was about 30 years older than me but his girl friend was younger than my wife. That day I decided that Art was my hero.

Dang but I'm glad I decided to check into the Café when I did!

Butterfly Man, you are one of my heros!

I've looked up to you and your style of entertaining for a LOOOOONG time (yes, we are all getting old!)...

And I think, if I remember correctly, I know one of your friends....Kip Reynolds!

I worked with Kip in the early 90's in Vegas....He's one heck of a juggler as well.

No soppy crap here, just know you have a 'forever fan' and someone who looks to you as a Mentor in the me, Professor Piper!

God Speed,

Prof. Piper

Hey Professor and Al ... glad to be here ... love this site ... so much stuff to explore ... can't wait 'til I find out if they do origami around here ... I got quite a collection ... oh, wait Art died ... yeah, that old fart ... passes gas the last time and without so much as a phone call ... selfish as well as shameful that guy.

I must admit I got a little teary eyed and all at first ... after all he was a kind of easy target for me at IJA conventions ... I mean al those laughs I could still be getting if he was just alive ... you must know how everybody loved him and since everybody hated me (you know, in the way that they do)...well, I could like be just so m-e-a-n to him and get away with it because they thought we were friends ... truth was, I was really trying to butter him up to see if I could get the Founder's Trophy awarded to me ... creep gave it to Nickerson... see if I scatter his ashes where he wanted!

Butterfly Man,

I just received and read "Happy Dayze Are Here Again", your poetic tribute to Art Jennings in the latest e-newsletter from the IJA. In just five stanzas you were able to pay homage to the man who started the entire organization based on the simple pledge of "rendering assistance to other jugglers". I liked it very much.

Thanks Robert, you done good,
