There's a vanish and production of two coins from Carney called: "Half Dollars in the Mist." It can be used for other coins also.
imagine the possibilities... endless...

Tenkai Pennies using DBC and the flash recovery (and the one handed vanish if you have an extra )
A torn and restored quarter using a half quarter. The Jennings trick where you have a coin find a card in the middle of the deck (also fun when you use an extra for the first phase) more?
...to all the coins I've dropped here

The current economic crisis is due to all the coins I've vanished.

Against my better judgment, because I thought the rest of the book was strikingly unimpressive, I will have to say that "Vanishing Coins Across" in Eivind Lowig's "Stand Up Coin Power" is the best routine that meets the stated requirements.
Starts as a coins across, ends with coins in your shoe. Add the load from "Earth Shoes" by Looy Simonoff, and you're in business.

If you know how to effectively sleeve with either hand, two (matching) quarters and a glass can keep an audience spellbound.

Do you recall a reference for this and for Jennings coin and card trick? Thanks

Ehands,
STUCK is Greg Rostami's vanish and reproduction of a single coin. Do a search for it here at the Café and you'll see that it's wildly popular. Unfortunately it involves an element that would prohibit its use in a hospital setting which is where Mike and our organization will be using these effects. Torn and Restored coin is a Paul Harris effect which I believe you can find in the Art of Astonishment books. Now there are probably others which predate Harris but I'm not aware of them. The handling that I actually prefer is the Richard Sanders version from the Sankey/Sanders Sessions DVD. The spectator helps with the restoration which I think is always a good thing. The setup and handling is a bit knacky though and as you know uses a gimmicked coin which doesn't really fall within the criteria that we're looking for. A quick search on larryjennings.com yielded a bibliography of all of Larry's material (prolific to say the least!), also cross indexed by effect. Here is what is listed for Coin in Deck: Coin Cut The Gen (June 1967)—This appeared as “Coin In Deck.” Lecture Notes (Hollywood Roosevelt Lecture) (1970) Larry Jennings-No Card Magic Nyuumon (1972) Larry Jennings On Card And Coin Handling (1977, p. 14) Larry Jennings Close Up Part 2 (early 1980s) Larry Jennings-No Card Magic Nyuumon (1993) Larry Jennings Close Up Parts 1 & 2 (2005) Cheers! Broken and restored coin by Richard Sanders from Sankey/Sanders Session. The handling is easy. It's visual and spectator gets involved.

On "Jay Sankey Live," 'X-Quisite' transposes quarters (one marked) between your hand and spectator. Quick, shocking to the unsophisticated, and simple at least until Uncle Sam introduced state quarters. Still good IMHO, maybe more so with extra effort.

Hello Mike
Bottled by Sam Schwartz (can be found in his book SAM'S The Magic of Sam Schwartz) is an entertaining transposition of a quarter and a penny. The unexpected climax is when the penny ends up inside a little bottle. Tannen's sold this for awhile as a stand-alone trick. A couple of years ago someone came out with a gimmicked coin version, but the original is still the best. Julie |

Hey Julie:)
Folks, Thanks truly for your thought nuggets and discussions around this question. Beside enjoying the discussion, you have given us much to work on and delve into over the holidays which I so welcome. Things are finally recovering to an acceptable pace and I can start digging in. Big thanks to those who have PM'd me with specific routines and even to that kind gentleman who sent a teaching video. Thank you indeed! |
