I went to Abbotts 70th get-together on saturday and Jeff Hobson was so funny. Great to see old friends again! Arther Trace also was flawless!
Their were 2 or 3 comments made about the "other" magic place in town, that I wish all involved would just grow up and act like adults. People go to Colon to have fun! Mark |

Hobson was funny, although I am not a fan of going out and pulling people out
of the audience to assist (He chose the man 2 seats from me)...There were several other comments that were not appropriate for the audience...The dealer show afterwards (Saturday) is dwindling every year....

What do you mean by not appropriate for the audience? C'mon, this is 2007!! If you are referring to adult humor, I can guarantee you hear worse on "The Simpsons"! The days of "Green Acres" and "Red Skelton" being funny are over, so deal with it. All you magicians have to quit being so prude, so uptight, so thin-skinned, and mamby pamby about everything. Why would you not want to go up and volunteer? If you are thinking "Oh, boy, I am afraid he might make fun of me..." then seek counseling for self esteem therapy. Too many magicians must have been teased as kids and now as adults they freakin' lose control if someone jokingly pokes a little fun at them. How can you be in show business and also be afraid to participate as a volunteer in a show?

I'm not talking about the Hobson jokes as I thought they were funny! What I am talking about is the jokes and cry baby attitude towards the other magic store in town....and soon to be a third one in Colon.
Yes Abbott's was first, FAB was second. We know that so instead of using that energy to cry about it use that energy to make magic better for all. My good friend the late Jack Barrows spent the last part of his life not taking sides and trying to help all equally in the art of magic and we should learn from it. I for one go to both magic shops and like them both! Mark |

I like the idea of another magic store there ... and I commend the guy for having the business sense to realize that there are a lot of magicinas in town that weekend and taking advantage of it. "Magic Capital" should mean more than just one shop.
How did Glen Gerard do as MC? I wasn't there, but I heard he was really funny. |

Imagine if they worked together what a magic week it could be. Plenty of people around to support both places. You could stagger the lectures and shows so everyone could see everything. Now you're talking magic capital of the world and an exciting week of magic.

Joseph,
I forgot to tell you that the guy knew he would be picked...didn't know what would happen on stage but at the lecture was asked if he would be in that same seat at the night show...Jeff Hobsons show is well laid out. Mark |

Mark you are half right on the being picked part. Except that guy was not
pre-picked/or pre selected. I was the one Jeff came to and asked about possibly using in the show. He decided not to use me but I was surprised when he used my wife instead. I was the one at the lecture that he had spoken with. I could be wrong but I attended the whole lecture and I believe I was the only one he spoke with. The gentleman you are speaking about sat in the same row as me but was accross the aisle. Rodney

Thankyou for correcting me on that. Nice meeting you at the lecture. I had a lot of fun and got to pick up some new magic.

Watch stealing was very well done! If you want to know his way of doing it,it is on the "Hobson Live" dvd. He makes it simple and sweet.

Jeff does not use a stooge on the watch stealing. But he does need a person with a watch.
Last time he was here he forgot to spot someone before, so I located someone for him. This year he had two people that he could go to. He is a pro and one of the best. Richard

You know whats really weird about this Colon thing? No one, not even Houdini, can see everything that week. That makes it a pity but on the bright side, it gives us a choice and that's always good.
I shop at both places and enjoy having a choice, but scheduling your events at the same time as someone else does not sound like someone who wants to cooperate. Sorry Rick, but to wait till Abbotts puts out it's date and schedule, then intentionally put conflicting events, then come here and say you agree with everyone here and want to cooperate is convoluted. Why not call it what it is, good old fashion competition and with a third shop coming in, I cannot wait till next year! Competition is good, why hide it. I think Colon is the greatest magic place on earth and they are setting new standards with 3 magic shops, whats not to love. While other conventions have competing dealers, Colon has competing dealer rooms! I only ask that if a 4th magic shop is thinking about moving into Colon, why not try Toledo or Monroe, we need a brick and mortar shop bad. |

To Starrpower- Glen Gerard did a super job as MC. He is funny, original, and one of the best MC's I have seen. You can tell he is one of those "seasoned pros" who obviously works a lot, and must do tons of shows in the "real world". I have no idea how he does his rope tie escape, it's not like any other I have seen before. He also took a watch from an unsuspecting volunteer. Kerry Pollack was excellent as MC on Friday night at Abbott's too. Another very good act was juggler "Circus Boy" Bobby Hunt, on the Wednesday night show. I think it is great that there are other magic shops in Colon. Did anyone see Roy Huston and Company Illusion Show in Sturgis on Saturday night?
