Here's an idea for all of you guys to ponder over. a magician takes out his wand. holds it between his hands, palms facine each other. he then slams his hands together and the wand seems to pierce both hands and can be seen coming out the back of both

now that's a trick I would love to see created

And a mage would do this why?
While it might sound pretty for eye candy, I always want to know why something happens. If one is trying to show that the wand itself has powers of penetration, there are many other things I might use to demonstrate this, a more solid material like a table top or 2x4.
If I were a mage, I would have to wonder why I might want entangle my hands and wand in such a way.
As for doing it, are you talking close up or parlor with a bit of distance.

Reasons for this are pretty easy actually.
There was a group of monks that had a general grasp of physics, they understood that objects were comprised of mostly empty space. Their theory was that the human body could possibly resonate in such a way that their solid particles could pass through the empty space in an object as the solid particles of the object would pass through the empty space in their bodies.
In theory, they could walk through walls.
Supposedly, some of them did, and when their concentration was broken, they would stop resonating at the proper frequency, and become part of the object itself, trapped for eternity. I have even heard of some of their fossil remains have been found, deep within the rock walls of the monestary.
Personally, with that used as a base for a storyline, I'd like to see the magi have the wand penetrate slowly, deep concentration on their face.
I have no clue how to pull off this effect, but the reason part was easy.

Go Gwyd.
Order up on one palm piercing wand.
"What's your drug?" she asked. "Hope" he said, "The most addicting one of all."

Gwyd..great story...Not a Wand but my Xmosis Effect will accomplish this to a degree. I know I know, write it up and make it available...I was hoping to clean the shop and find what I needed to write down for it and didn't get to it. But I like your description and ask permission to re-write it slightly for the effect as an alternate story. You will be credited of course. Smile

Why do it? its wierd, new and a chalenge to come up with a method to pull it off. it would be cool for a true extreme magician or something.

but mainly because its just an idea I had one day and thought it would be cool

A similar story concept to Gwyd's but I remember hearing about it on a respected documentary radio program so I believe there is at least an element of truth in it. The story was about some high ranking officer in the US Military who was investigating all things 'paranormal'. He knew that the majority of a solid object was empty space and was convinced it was possible to walk through walls and was often seen trying to do so.

I'm also reminded of the famous "Philadelphia Experiment."

Exactly what I was thinking Philemon! The Philadelphia Experiment was an experiment (allegedly) in invisibility devices. The ship USS Elderidge in (I think) 1942 was the subject, along with her crew. When the "Cloaking Device" was activated, there was a strage green glow around the ship. The ship itself faded from view, however, the indent of the ship could be seen in the water. Now for the wierdest part. Suddenly and without warning, the indent in the water filled in. The ship had completely vanished and was no longer there. Several minutes later, those who were there said there was a strange sound and an electrical feeling to the air. The ship suddenly reappeared. As the military scientists boarded the ship, what they saw horrified them. There were pieces of sailors that had fused with the ship! An MOVING arm stuck up from the deck, in other places sailors were fused with walls from the torso up, some places only a leg.
These men did not survive. Those who made it intact had gone mad and babbled incoherently about other times and dimensions. No one knows what really happened that day, and of course the government knows nothing!

I have an Uncle who claims that he was stationed with someone who was present during the Philadephia Experiments...he's told me some wild stories!
