Like emyers99 uses it, John creatively made Ringo in such a way that you can control when the ring comes out. I use three other spectators(kids)before the Ringo routine. That way the machine is in full view the entire show off to stage right. For my vanish I plan on the cloth method supplied. The spectator is set up to believe the ring will end up in a stack of boxes that have been in full view on stage left but instead of a ring she will find a ring case with a quarter. Low and behold my assistant will move (load) the machine to center stage and all I have to do is perform since I have absolutely no heat what so ever. One tip for those with back of room sales or concession stands - I put a ticket in the bubble for the kids for a free magic trick to be redeemed at my magic stand. A subtle plug without doing a commercial... |

Does anyone have a phone number for Sterlini Magic? There doesn't seem to be one on their website. I paid for a gumball machine several weeks ago, and still haven't heard from them. No reply to my emails either. I'm sure there's a good explanation - there always is - but I'd like to call them to find out what's going on?

Their web site does state that its a 3-4 week turnaround to make up the machine Doug, so hopefully that's what the delay is. Always frustating when a business doesn't answer emails. But with the magic business they could also be away on a paid gig. Keep us informed

Good for you Fred. The Ringo machine is a little less money but it is a knock-off. Kudos to you for supporting the creator.

Fred, you will be so happy!
Joe's machine is a beauty but it is the history of the effect shared on the DVD and the psychology behind his years of work with it that are the true ticket. |

Not to pick on this thread in particular, but a lot of this "original creator" purism is exaggerated. If you trace back further, you may find Givan took the idea from soneone else and innovated on it. Sterlini deserves great credit for crafting a fantastic and cost-efficient machine. Whether his is the original or not is relative. If someone has a copyright, then they have a good claim. Otherwise, my speculation is as good as the next person's, unless someone really goes through the trouble of researching the geneology of a trick and offers claims backed by research.
While I understand that creators are justifiably perturbed by "knock-offs" (which in the drug market are sold after a 20 year exclusive patent by developer as "generics"), there is an equal threat from the other side, which is price-gouging on tricks in the name of protecting monopolies by alleged creators (who, unless they have proof, should be considered to have gotten their ideas from the public domain and then improved upon them). All I am saying is that we should congratulate John Sterlini's hard wor, and reward it with our purchases, rather than, as purists, calling it a knock-off, when in all probability we cannot definitively tell who invented this. This extreme attention to "pedigree" of manufacture would seem to be driven by collectors who own various props and want to protect their value by perpetrating the idea that their creator was the original. Am I right? And, to get back to the thread topic (I hate when they digress so far), thanks John for engineering such an efficient and practical version of the "ring in gumball machine." |

In my professional opinion the differences between Sterlini's product and Givan's are substantial enough to warrant its own rite. Both machines have their own unique advantages. This product was clearly made by a professional for professionals and is a real pleasure to own. I was so excited after inspecting the machine that I could not fall asleep. Instead, I just tossed and turned on and off all night marveling over all of the sheer possibilities. I have been performing nest of box effects with Viking's Rattle Box and Lynetta Welch's No Ring Hank for years and found this wonderful gem to be a much welcomed alternative and very logical progression. I plan to debut this rendition as my finale in a wedding/reception show next weekend. The client asked me if I had a way to produce three Pandora bracelet charms for the Bride's maids. Guess where they will be coming from? I plan to vanish the Groom's ring at the start of the show. At the conclusion, the machine will produce three charms for the bride's maids, a toy ring, then the real ring for the Groom and one for the Bride Talk about a moment they will all never forget! |

The wedding reception performance at Avery Ranch Club in Austin with Pancholini Revilla was a huge success! The wedding party asked if we had a magical way to produce 3 Pandora bracelet charms so we incorporated them into our show! At the commence of the show the groom's wedding band was placed under a black handkerchief and he was asked to hold on to it through the silk. At the count of three the handkerchief was whisked away withi his ring to be found nowhere in sight! Then we performed a series of classic magic effects including but not limited to The Chop Cup, Color Changing Silk, Pancho's incredible 2 Ring Linking Ring routine to music, etc. At the conclusion of the show, the bridesmaids were called up and issued quarters to insert into the machine and instructed to crank the handle where they each received their beautiful charms inside the plastic capsules! Then the groom was called up and the action repeated but he received a cheap toy ring in his capsule! Finally, the bride was called up and received the groom's ring which left them all with a memory that I assure you they will never forget!
