Well this little card continues to impress. I had it in my outlaw wallet the other night while a few friends and I were out at a bar. The bartender saw the front of the card in the wallet and commented on how odd it looked. So I went into the story and with the bartender and the manager and just floored them, they just looked at each other when they saw the back. I then used the outlaw peek to guess a name to nail up the coffin.. Brilliant work!!

So I don`t really get the idea of the story together with the effect (the room). if I would do it to a stranger, and start the effect with the story, he would think I am wether drunk or I just escaped from a psychiatry! the effect alone is great! but why the story? what do I miss here?

Thanks for liking the video folks but truth be told it made itself.
I was granted access to a large view of the inner Sanctum sitting room. I was then able to really crawl around the art of Sanctum 2, look at things closely and I found the place genuinely creepy and real. Something darkish seeps up off the Sanctum art into the very air. Dark minds did some dark designs and you can sense it. |

Sanctum 2-The Sanctuary's release, is perfectly timed for the Fall season. Adding dimension and a another medium to the pallet of the "mystery entertainer/artist".

I have posted a review of this on TalkMagic in the UK and really love it. I was in the US on business and came home to find it waiting for me. I thought this would play nicely if you wore a magnifying glass on a chain (tucked in the waistcoat, of course). Something about the panning movement in the video suggests that a wide angle magnifier would look really cool as the revelations pass by the participant. I have most of Rick's products and I am never disappainted. The production on this is superb. I think it works well with Murray's 'Between the Lines' and Mark Edwards 'Bundles', which I am having a hoot assembling (it requires long hours in antique shops looking for Victorian and Edwardian letters, drat!). Great value as well....love the booklet!

Got mine today. . . had the original. . . and like that. .. but this has a lot more going for it. I'm looking forward to practicing with this for a bit. I have just the folks in mind for this one.
KiKi, it occurs to me that you could use the backstory written as a letter to yourself from someone who knew you were interested in strange things. Have the letter and the card in an envelope. Then it's not just you feeling weirded out when you start with the story. I'm forever stealing (paraphrasing) one of Eugene Burger's openings, "The really great thing in this line of work, is that you meet all kinds of weird people. And, they send you the strangest things." Raven

You don't need any of the backstory at all when you think about it - that is the beauty of OUTLAW - they give you great backstories but the effect and items are so powerful, many story ideas just spring forth.
I should put this at the OUTLAW forum... but imagine the back of the card being blank at the beginning (since in the book that came with it - I think it sounded like it could have been for the effect)... and an image slowly materializing on the back... more mental bizarre magick... but what do you expect from me? Inky!

I think the backstory is beautiful... BUT, I will never use it. Well, only as a jumping off point.
I will use a New Orleans story. Slightly different character. I was walking down Bourbon Street, after listening to Jazz. Old man on the street points a crooked finger at me and says,"You're the one!" Thanks Roth for stirring the creative juices. This card is dynamite. No sleights... No gaffs... Nothing but two minds and real magick. It is hard to imagine how such a tiny, little card could be a prop for so many genres. BTW, if any of you Sanctum members have any comedic ideas, please let me know. Peace, Parson

I posted this on another forum, then saw this here, so I'm posting it again here, sorry if you have already seen it: I got Sanctum 2 a while back, and I have had a chance to have a good look over it.
To frame my comments, here is a long and complex metaphor: The first time I tried a Starbucks chocolate cheese cake was an odd affair. The slice was beautifully presented, and the first mouthful was delicious: richly sweet, dense and tasty. But after eating half of the slice, there seemed to be so very much of it. How am I ever going to get through all of this? I had to leave the rest of the slice, there was just too much. Eventually I caved in and tried again: this time I took a little bit then the rest went in my fridge to be devoured later. It just wasn't something I was ready to consume in it's whole form, but I enjoyed it greatly over a few days. (Now, to direct this metaphor to it's conclusion) Sanctum 2 is a nicely presented bundle of mentalism: on first glance you think, I can really put this to use. Then, as you read through the long and complex backstory and the concepts behind it, and mentally walk through the phases of performance you start to think: blimey, there is a lot here. A hell of a lot. Maybe too much! I had difficulty seeing just how it would fit in to my existing routines and persona, not because it was underdeveloped: quite the opposite, it was SO complete, and so specific that I almost couldn't see how this enormous piece could squeeze in. Eventually I realised what the idea, I think, behind it is: it has so much in it, and you need to draw from it what you want. There is so much there that you can easily craft what you need from it: a simple hit and run, a paced mood piece, something bizarre, there are all kinds of applications. It absolutely is a whole routine in one card, and a strong one at that, but each piece is so defined that you can break it down and perform them individually without harming them. I don't think that Sanctum is something that you can just pick up and play, it is so dense that in a way you have to become a part of the world it portrays before you can really sell it to an audience, and you have to have a clearly accessible understanding of the concepts required. Chris is a Midlander, like me, and an artist to boot, and his hard work shows through on the card, and for this hard work you will have to meet him half way: Sanctum needs to be worked hard. I realise this isn't much of a review Chris, sorry! I need to work the card in a bit before I think I am ready with a more useful opinion that doesn't hinge around cheese cake. My brief review now is: delicious, and for £15 (or whatever it works out at) it is a very tasty addition to your fridge. Metaphor over. Phill
