I was unhappy with the painful gimmick of the Okito voodoo doll, so I started experimenting with alternatives to produce a similar effect, ie. a small figure stands up in the palm of your hand.
I tried PK REMs, IT, etc, and while doing this, I stumbled on an amazing method! As far as I know, "new" though I shudder to say that since I am not all knowing (contrary to audience opinion ) and may have been done somewhere previously in the eons of magical practice. This method uses no IT, no REMs, no painful hookups, a totally self-contained prop, examinable, and you don't have to curl your palm. You can even do this in a spectator's hand. So that I don't get accused of copying the voodoo doll theme I have come up with several variations- Frankenstein, a mummy, a sangoma (African witchdoctor) but I like the idea of a clay golem that the magi gives life to (stick a scroll in its head a la Terry Pratchett!) For an adults only audience I thought of a phallus that erects! Though there could be a pagan spin on that, I suppose. Just wanted to get some feedback- any interest in this? magically, ric |

I highly recommend that you find the English translation of "The Golem" by I.L. Peretz (he actually wrote the piece in Yiddish).
It's a short story, so chances are that you will find it in a "collection" of Yiddish stories. Peretz wrote with a very dark, grim view of society, and as such many bizarrists may find some great material within his stories. PSIncerely Yours, Paul Alberstat |

Jewish magic and mysticism -- now you're talking my language! If golems, dybbuks, and demons are your cup of chicken soup, you'll want to read Great Tales of Jewish Fantasy and the Occult, translated and edited by Joachim Neugroschel. 31 stories, and less expensive than most mentalism books.

Thanks for all the positive feedback!
I am debating wether I should market this effect, which seems like quite an undertaking, or if I should share it with the magical community. My only concern is that someone else will then make money off my idea. I plan to make a video clip soon so then you can all see it in action. I will keep you posted magically, ric |

Hmmm, tough choice.
A while back I inquired about an effect like what you describe. I was referred to The Handbook of Horror which I still have not picked up. In it there was a Golem effect according to several bizarrists. If you are going to market your effect, might want to make sure they are different enough. I can't wait for the video.

I love the Terry Pratchett idea. I mean, I almost felt the story was wasted on satire when it could have been, well... bizarre! Also, sounds great. No need for a stigmata effect after!

I've tried golem effects but never come up with a practical idea. The Surnateum is always looking for a golem, for his collections.

Well, the last mention of this was 3 years ago, so looks like we may not get to see the video.
I've always loved Golemn/ homunculous ideas- there was an old one in Invocation where some green goo came to life and moved around on the table. would love to brainstorm more with this sort of idea.

His last post was in 2007. I don’t think he’s going to answer.
