I too have been blessed with this little gem. It is gimmicked in several different ways. The look, feel, and even the smell of this product are outstanding. Totally authentic (though not an actual monkey paw).
I have not yet had much of a chance to play with it, but my wife and a few kids that have seen it agreed that it looked very creepy. I will post a longer review when I have had more of a chance to play with it. Dave |

I received one today from HauntingMagic, and I am delighted with it. It is truly a prop to be used. As PTBEAST has pointed out, the paw is gimmicked in several ways and so can be used in innumerous ways. The appearance, the odor, everything about the thing is calculated to make the paw something that will immediately gain the attention of your audience. I can envision spectators hesitant to touch it, and it will freak them out should the thing happen to twitch in their hand. I would be careful do this over a table this as someone might drop the paw out of sheer fright.
I put mine in a special little box, but a pouch would be as effective. Oh, what a tale you could weave about this little paw! Once you have one, you will be anxious to show it, to invent a tale about it, and to devise a routine around it. Baba calls the paw "genuine, authentic and powerful." He should know, and powerful it is -- in any sense of the word. Bill

Looks good for closeup. I went to a larger size Paw of about 5 3/4 inches and up (to a Chimp size!) from the small size I used to make due to all the requests for a Paw that works from stage or for a room sized audience.
This little piece looks to be just right for a pocket, 1 on 1, 1 on 3 and is a bit of clever taxidermy. I wasn't blessed with a personal appearance (I'm sure Baba begged, pleaded and cried for his) but the picture and (the way 'around the bend') description looks good. I took the Monkey Paws off my site for awhile (running out of the correct hair!) and am only doing them by request for those in the know, so this is cool that these little dudes are available. Posted: Aug 24, 2007 8:07pm http://hauntingmagic.com/ That's the site (I think) click on the link for the Paw and read the description..it's a hoot. Doug

I noticed on the news that the government of Malasia has decided to lift the ban on expotring monkeys to curtail the over population of them. THey steal food, invade homes and attack people. This could mean four paws per animal for bizarrists to use. SEll the rest of the body to yoyr favorite restaurant.

Baba,
Now you have done it. Is it not bad enough that I am broke because of you, Doug, the Curator, and a few others. Now I need to get a paw. Talking about paws, here doggie, here doggie. Come look at the nice hacksaw. (Or is that too Vick?) Gotama

Is this an actual paw from some type of animal? If so, I want nothing to do with it. I will keep with my Higley's.

Baba: No animal was killed? What...they have Leprosy?
Using my quote as written above, on his site he injects that they were not altered by taxidermy...what I meant by cleavor is the addition of a couple of gimmicks to allow for 'magic'. To stop the PMs from clogging my box (geez guys!) No I don't know Kerry and thus can not endorse his work...no thoughts on it one way or the other (except what I posted in previous post above)...you're on your own. AS to my stance on animal parts, my thoughts on that are well known BUT as a personal preference only. I do not presume to advise others based on what I believe. One of 'the guys' eMailed me this site: http://www.spiritconnectionstore.com/ I notice a Coyote Face is only $4.50...would I use one? Hell no. But you might.

In answer to PMs & email.
Some people seem to think I am trying to make a move onto Higley's "turf". While there may be some similarities, I have no plans to compete with him. Why, when there is so much opportunity, would I want to but heads with someone so established, and such a nice guy? If you are debating if you want a Higley's or mine, buy Higley's if he has any left. There really is no comparison in how they will be used. His is much larger and works well on stage. His has a lifetime guarantee. Your dog will probably not eat his (not so with mine). Mine is for intimate, close-up magic. Mine is also a REAL fetish, which will turn off many of you. I mean it can easily be used in “pagan” religious purposes. It is also gimmicked in several ways for the magician who’s lines blur between magic and the occult, or who wishes to closely mimic the occult. Both paws serve different purposes. I own a Higley's DM (with a monkey’s paw), and I use it too. Look at the video on my site - this IS NOT for everyone - many will find it distasteful and gross (which means it has the desired effect for me, perhaps not you?) FYI, It is a REAL paw, not a primate paw, but it is real. The animals were killed for other reasons then their paws, and would have been killed anyway if I did not take there paws. The only difference is I am using them instead of letting them rot. If you have issue with this, DON'T get one. No, like Higley, I am not telling ANYONE, how I make it, or what materials are used for the hand itself. I can tell you it is not primate or raccoon, nor is it domesticated pet or zoo animal - and it is legal in the country they originated and in the US & Canada. If it is that big a deal for you, I imagine with enough research you could figure it out. All I ask is that you keep the secret to yourself. With plans and skill, you can make a nice floating table in an hour or two for very little in materials. These sell for $1,200 and more. As for a fox head being $4.50, as every magician knows, the value of a is not in just the material, but in the idea. If you can use a fox head more than this paw, then by all means, by it instead. The value of my paw is in that it resembles a human hand, and is obviously real, and that stirs a gut reaction. The gimmicks are frosting on the cake. If you can make something similar, I am sure the price would drop on mine, but right now I am the sole producer. I figured it out, and how to make it work. Allow me my due. I am not getting rich off these, they are a fun diversion. This is my first try at bizarre products, and if it goes as well as it has, I will have different things of equally “sick” in nature in the future. No, for the most part they will be nothing like Higley’s fine props. I have no intent to compete with him. My products ARE not for everybody, I know this. If you have a problem with them, don't buy one. I have no problem if you do not like it. If everyone liked it, it would not be so powerful. Basically, my opinion is if you eat a burger at McDonalds, you shouldn't have an issue with this being an animal paw . . . . but people do, which makes it so creepy. We buy cow flesh every day, wrapped in plastic, and have no problem with it --now that is a bit creepy. We wear animal skin all the time, we just call it leather - only the Indians wore “skins”. Why is it better to keep an animal in poor conditions to fatten it and eat it better than killing a wild animal? I don’t know. The wild is not exactly paradise for most animals either. A troubling subject, but not about this in particular, so let’s not get into that, OK? Also, I am a card carrying, registered member of the Thlinget Tribe of Alaska, and while this is not a traditional fetish from my tribe, it is very much a real fetish. |

Well said Capt!
I too got a bunch of PMs and a couple of eMails. I initially posted to let folks know it was a good thing. I'm proud to have such a loyal following but in this case it is a bit misplaced though I do appreciate the thought. I didn't invent Monkey paws and would have no room to claim territory. Especially something that is needed and useful to the community. I think your Paw is pretty cool and has a couple of neat attributes you put into it. Rock on says I. As to the animal stuff I just didn't want to get into it here either...been there done that...I have very complex opinions and would take a book...but in a past life I was doing Indian Art on Rabbit Skins and other skins. (Tatonka Skulls painted in traditional designs and originals.) (One of my big customers was Rip Taylor! haha) Anyway I mostly worked Flea Markets. I went through the usual do gooders trying to tell me about cruelty to animals and I patiently explained to them that they were rabbit skins I imported from Spain that were FOOD STOCK. They were not killed for the Art...I was just using the skin and it was a tradition not to waste (and a shame if you did) any part of the animal. (Grandma Hattie was an adopted Cheyenne, so I knew a bit about it. I don't have a card but a 1/4 of my ass howls at the Moon.) The main reason I stay away from use of animal parts is the possible reaction of the spectator and in many cases the buyer. Though, If I know that the animal was not hunted for just parts or skin, I really have no qualms...it is only right not to make garbage of what was once kickin' up the jams in the woods...like the 1st Nations, one should not waste. If Kerry says he's good with the SOURcE material then I would be too. Also I don't know the 1st thing about working with REAL dead stuff...nor do I want to. Again Kerry...have at it! haha As to the price...I didn't pay attention to what it was and I didn't get much feedback on that but hell, it is what it is and what you feel you should get. I'd buy it! If it's in a plastic bubble in a machine at the super market that's one thing but crafted by hand? The price is the price. In the Magic community their are those that would probably get $399 if the thing could make a a buck appear in a lemon. As to the Coyote Head stuff...I posted that just of interest to us all...Somebody sent it to me and I thought it was interesting the value (or LACK OF) that was placed on the raw animal parts...also check the disclaimer on the site. Interesting me thinks. I posted the link to Kerry's site because I liked what he was doing...not to endorse him...though I might if I was talking from knowledge...but just because it lookied like a cool addition to our craft. If somebody makes an Eyeball floating in a Jar that is animated...well then I might get my back up... Both Paws DO serve different purposes...also mine you have to add the smell...his comes with it...haha, sounds like a bargain to me! Plus he has some of my stuff? Hell he's a customer! Thus can do no wrong. Later. and Hookahey. Nice that y'all have my back (much appreciated) but Capt. Kid (Kerry) is a good guy. Doug
