Hey guys, I'm tryin to improve my skills in coins and I'm totally in love with matrix routines. I own Sean bogunia's last coin matrix and I find its really good. Can anyone offer a list of various coin matrix routines one should own or aquire. Thanks!

Kyle,
I'm pretty new to the whole magic world and in the short time I've been around it seems I've seen or heard of at least a dozen or more variations! There are some great coin guys here that I'm sure will point ya in the right direction! Good luck in your quest,
Mick

I haven't read it yet but you might search for reviews of John Born's "Matrix God's Way". It's a book and cd-rom of various Matrix routines.

WGM's Matrix cd has a lot of variations and Al Schneider gives a history on how he created the effect.

Well, if you know the essential sleights used in coin matrix you can pretty much design your own matrix routine. Paul Harris steal is the most useful in matrix follow by pickup move.

I've seen the John Born's "Matrix God's Way", and it's incredible. I don't have the book with me right now, but it's at least a dozen routines.

John Born's is more in the realm of shadow coins..

Interesting eye candy. He worked out of the midwest for a few years...I hear he is now on the east coast...Lucky N.Yorkers..

One I like these days combines Matrix and a Coin Box...
(also an east coast reference...something like Boston Massacre)

Btw, whats the minimum the audience must be away from the matrix area? If too near, they will noticed the cards loaded and empty? because loaded ones tends to be higher.

John Born's is excellent, but man that guy thinks he is gods gift to women or something HAHA. When I saw this routine on one of the CoinVention dvd's, I was like, "Is this guy for real?" Then I saw a couple other dvd's and he was no where near as cocky. Guess he just grew up. I laughed though it was pretty funny. He was serious about it too that's what makes it even more funny.

But as for his routine, its excellent. One of the best matrix effects I have ever seen.

Gary, with my minimal experience I'm not sure of the full answer however last night I did JK's Impossible 2 feet from my wife and she's still not speaking to me today! Smile
As for "humps", I see a lot of guys doing in with a bit of a bow in the card like a Monte type bend maybe?!?!?

If you want to see an impossible looking matrix, check Bertini on You-tube. That aside, I met Shageo Takagi in the seventies and have used his routine since that time ( in his book published by Richard Kaufman). He did not speak much English, but he gave me his illustrated lecture notes( written in Japanese) and I learned from the pictures. A great experience meeting him.

You definitely have to look at Dean Dill - Extreme Dean series

then there's one in Doug Brewer dvd. Curtis Kam also has nice variation.

a lot of variation as well in cultural exchange dvd

hope this helps

cheers
Andre

In my opinion, distance issnt really a problem. I've been doing my research and I'm really in love with Shoot Ogawa's coin work. Seriously...He's the bomb! He pulls off coin matrix effects with spectator's noses almost touchin the close up mat.

Jus youtube shoot ogawa and you'll see some awesome stuff. I met shoot here in singapore and his coin slieghts are not easy to master. Have fun watchin him!

Andre, I've been interested in Deans "Coins, Glass and Silk" on Extreme Dean 2 and re watched and practiced along tonight. At the end I noticed a "BONUS" feature I'd never seen before and it had a nice explanation of his transfers and couple steals that were cool! I paid close attention to how he lays down his cards, due to the fact mine are still weak IMO! Never really had much enthusiasm toward Matrix and then got to see several excellent routines! Im liking them and WILL look into that VAST arena!

All I could say is, do not underestimate "No Steal Matrix" of Shoot Ogawa. It looks plain to us magician, but if done without pausing, it just hit laymen 1 after the other.

Mickey, careful not to perform too much for your wife or she will never speak to you ever. Smile

Kyle, I absolutely agree with you. Shoot's material is always full of suprise and quite "knucklebusting" I might add. But of course you can get it down with practice.

Mick, Glad to hear that you find the information is usefull. practice is the answer to perfect the move. You'll be there in no time. I'm sure

Cheers
Andre
