I am very sad to report that Jerry Andrus passed away today. The world of magic has lost another great magician. I have heard no news on his funeral arrangments but if I do I will pass it along. Brian

Although this was not unexpected, it is sad news. Mr. Andrus gave the first lecture I ever attended, over 30 years ago, and I still remember it vividly. A great magician with a brilliant mind, and an extremely nice man.

I met him a couple of times in the early 80's and was an enormous fan. (Still am)
One of my favorite memories in magic was eavesdropping on a long conversation he had very, very late one night at the Midwest Magic Jubilee about the universe, the nature of life, and whether or not there was any such thing that could truly be defined as "random." What a brilliant, fascinating man he was....

The saddest news I heard all week. The only consolation is in knowing that his suffering has ended and that his legacy will live on for generations upon generations. Jerry was one of my idols since childhood. His linking pins changed my world as a kid, his card magic inspired me, and his optical illusions convinced me to look at the world from all new perspectives. He will be greatly missed.
A private funeral will be held this week. The public Memorial Service is scheduled for Sunday, September 30, at the Albany Senior Center. The Center is located at: 489 Water Avenue NW Albany, OR 97321 The times and details of the event are still in the planning stages. I haven't read any of his material yet, but I'm aware of his significance in magic and his great work. He will be deeply missed. Antonio |

I'm really going to miss Jerry. He was such a sweet and caring man. And don't take that lightly. He really did care for everyone who sought him for help or friendship. I am so glad I got to know him over the last few years.
Don't forget Jerry. Don't let his magic die. Goodbye Jerry. |

My first acquaintance with Jerry Andrus was a 16mm silent film that featured some of his material from _Andrus Deals You In_. Later I had many opportunities to see him at lectures and conventions. I surprised him once by showing him one of his own card flourish revelations that normally required one of his special close-up pads--but in a way that it could be performed even on a bare table. (The Table Fan Flip on page 85 of the 2006 edition from Chzapro).
If ever there was someone could think "outside the box" it was Jerry Andrus. His ventures into the area of visual deception made it clear that our minds too easily influence our senses. When you think of his magic--the Panoramic Shift; Zone Zero; Linking Pins; Miser's Miracle--it is clear that Jerry Andrus was in a class all his own. He was a member of CSI--the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry (formerly CSICOP). He has now made the journey to that "undiscover'd country from whose bourn no traveller returns." Final Jeopardy category "Jerry Andrus." The answer is: The golden mean. What is the question? ----- Sonny Narvaez

A great loss to the magic community. Even though I never met Jerry before but I have his DVDs and I am admired his thinking and approach in magic whether in cards, his brilliant ball and handkerchief effect, etc.
I love his linking pins routine and his awesome illusions which he featured in each of the volume of his DVD which you can get from Meir Yedid Magic. Jerry would be sadly missed by all of us whoever familiar with his works.
