Hello, I'm new to these forums, and magic in general. Basically, I was wondering how I could induce a trance, and how to word what I want the person to do while 'under'. Mainly, I was hoping for some good books, that aren't only found on the web, or by ordering. But if anyone has any methods of induction that they'd be willing to offer for free, that's always good! Great even! I have read quite a few posts, and rented 5 or 6 books from my local library (which all turned out to be about self-hypnosis) but none have been of major help to me. Thanks!

Let me shatter your dreams. All hypnosis is self hypnosis. That is a fact and not in dispute.

Here's my favorite 5 second induction.
Me: Would you help me out with something? Subject: Sure Me: Ok, now I'd like you to close your eyes and pretend that you're in a hypnotic trance. Done. Seriously, with a cooperative subject, this will induce a trance. Then you can go into deepening techniques. You can even keep up the ruse. Me: As you imagine what it might be like to be in a hypnotic trance now, just continue to relax... |

Thanks, but what do you mean be deepening techniques? XD Sorry if I'm sounding like I know nothing. But on this subject I really do know nothing.

Yea I have to agree. You do know nothing.
You want to fly and you can't even crawl. Instant inductions are not beginner techniques. (heck I argue if they are even advanced techniques but that is another thread) Learn basics, fundamentals, then move on. Years from now.

Inductions? Why
They are no good without the rest of the knowledge... Go get some good books on the subject. Do a search. |

That's what I was asking for, a good book with all the required information. I've been looking for some, and found one that sound promising.
Ormand McGill's Encyclopedia of Hypnotism Any info on it? |

I have said a couple times now that I am looking for a place to start. I am 14, and I feel sure that I am smart enough to begin learning hypnosis and mental magic. To begin learning hypnosis and mental magic.

The guy clearly knows he's in a starter phase, he stated that he wanted to get started in hypnosis and mentalism. I think I started to learn about hypnosis at about 12yo by going through books.
I'm sure some people would be willing to teach some inductions for free. I gave away my favorite quick one above. There are other inductions freely available on the Internet. Let's make nice and offer the kid some advice. And yes Spellbinded, the McGill book is a great place to start - particularly if you are interested in stage hypnosis. |

Start with the book we mentioned. Read it cover to cover. From there, you will develop some questions and seek out further material. Theres no yellow brick road that will lead you to the promised library of secret books.
Just wanting to learn an induction is going to get you no where. This is something you will learn as you become more educated on the subject. An induction is only a small piece of the puzzle. Watch as many live shows as you can. BTW Hypnotism and Mentalism are two VERY different arts. They often get lumped together, and many performers do both. BUT mastering one will not bring you closer to the other. |

Thank you for the advice rinpoche. And RSD, thanks for being another to endorse McGill, I'll get that book for sure now. And yes, I know that they are two very different arts, I just like those magicians who do both.

Be sure when you get the Ormond McGill Book you get the one dated in 1996. The New Encyclopedia of Stage Hypnotism. It combines and adds to the first two books.

Me I'ld lock up all the secrets and keep them away from everyone searching on the net..
Hypnosis is made far too accessible these days it has killed it somewhat in my opinion. Just as it is doing the same with mentalism. Why should anyone expect free tuition? And anyway how can you teach an induction in a thread? that's absurd. Its a bit like saying you can have a relationship with a rubber doll. I did have a rubber doll in my show but off stage we were totally platonic... |

I think they should have them, just that they should be handed out with direction as well. Which is obviously happening.
If we don't teach the new generation, the art dies a horrid death. But it can die just as badly when everyone is taught as well. I like Richards solution personally.

Mindpunisher, you are quite odd. There is no secret in hypnosis. There are no "magic words" or "secret move," what you see is what you get. Go to any show anywhere and you see it all! You are protective of what? Hypnosis is a natural phenomena, not some mystical process. "Exposed" and "secrets" are oxymorons, they don't exist in hypnosis because it is all out front. Anyone who thinks hypnosis is filled with secrets has much to learn about hypnosis
In another post you said hypnotic secrets were tattooed onto masters till death or something. I think you have hypnosis mixed up with jackie Chan in Rush Hour 3... What would they tattoo? An inducation? An induction is way different than a incantation.... LOL
