I was recently visiting Brad Burt and he showed me something that completely blew my mind from just inches away! The Haunted Match Boxes. This was something that I had never seen done before, and Brad told me that it is because it is a GREAT effect, but they broke too easily. Brad has constructed a gimmick that you cannot break while performing and he GURANTEES it! More importantly it’s an awesome effect, that he can CUSTOM MAKE to your match box! If you work in a restaurant or bar that hands out matchboxes to customers, this is a no-brainer, and Halloween is just around the corner!

I had this! And yah, the gimmick broke. It was really flimsy. But this was such a blast of a routine. It really killed. Mainly because it was very different and people just weren't expecting it. They'd always end up with that WTF? look on their faces.

Don't you guys like the non gimmicked matchbox version ?
There are many creators of that basic effect. Two I already owe are Bob Ostin and Pat Conway versions. There is also the Matchbox Mambo. In all of them, I like Matchbox Mambo the best. its a winner. Here is a demo http://dannyarcher.com/movies/mbm5.wmv I don't think the Haunted Match Boxes can be handed out or even seperated. while all the other I mentioned can be handed out. |

I didn't dislike the matchbox mambo, but when Brad holds them parallel but separated, it is an amazing moment. Maybe you can do that with matchbox mambo, but he didn't do it in that above routine, his were always touching.
While handing out is great, and achievable with minimal skill, I find that most often even the props that I can hand out, I don't ever have to. It is always a great addition to any effect, but realistically not necessary.

Maybe have both sets as they both look great.

Matchbox Mambo is the one I had, now that you mention it. And it was a nice finish to have examinable matchboxes left on the table.

Is there more than one Matchbox Mambo? I just checked on The Trickery and they sell one. The price is fifteen and they say that Danny Archer or Steve Draun don't have anything to do with it.

I think its by Paul Richards and marketed by Danny.
As far as the name goes, there is only one Matchbox Mambo out there. The method is not new but the handling and presentation certainly is. MM goes in most performing conditions and I highly recommend it. Your spectators will like it after you've performed zillion card tricks. |
