What brand bill tube does everyone use?
How often do you use it?

I have the brass bill tube, cannot remember the maufacturer. I don't use it that often anymore. It is a neat trick and garret thomas showed me a great way to prep and load the gimmick right in front of the spectators but I still do not have a good enough story for it that works with my character.

I am also talking about the locking bill tube. (where the bill ends up in a locked tube)
Im thinking about getting a Viking model. What do you all think? What is the quality of all the different kinds?

I had wanted a bill tube for years. Finally bought one at a convention here in NZ a few months ago. Haven't used it - not sure if I will. I found that in (long, long period) between the time when I first thought "Oooh - I want one of them!" and the time when I shelled out the cash, I had changed my approach. I now prefer to avoid things that look too much like props. Alas, for me, the bill tube falls into that category with a resounding thud.

I would suggest a Viking.
But use the locking one and not the screw on type.

Never used a bill tube. I agree with Qenny. They look to much like a "prop". I try to stay away from such things. To me if a spectator sees "props" they could be thinking "That little "prop" is doing the magic. If I had little "props" like that I could be a magician too". And you know what? They are right.

I originally posted in Feb of 2003. It is now Oct of 2004. In that time I have purchased my bill tube. Sadly, I haven't used it!
It doesn't seem as practical in a performance. Its just a cool little toy to have.

It's all presentation. If you introduce this prop that no one has ever seen before it doesn't make sense, but if you tell a little story like:
Do you know what this is; this is what they use to keep $100 bills in back in the 1860. They would lock them up so even if they were stolen the thieves could not access the money..... You have to give some logic as to why you are using the “thing.” |

Great idea, Eric. I use a viking one, I use the term "use" loosely, as I rarely do it in performance, unless it's an all money performance.
