Anyone have ideas for Gospel routines with Flash paper? After all flash paper is dramatic and get's a great response when used in tricks.

A simple one that I saw done by Evangelist Rex Short from New Zealand is to demostrate how Sins are forgiven (God says he will not remember our sins) so as the spec writes a sin on a piece of paper (flash paper) that is folded so no one can see the sin, and as it is handed back to you, you talk about what it means to be forgiven; to have sin be gone..... and as you take the paper, it goes poof! (Doing what flash paper does...)
You can add a lot more to the presentation, even reinforcing as you take the folded paper back, that you won't read it, in fact, you are sure that there wouldnt be anything to read... Because God has forgiven them. (Dont forget that they must write a sin for which they repent... changed their way) Then while they are wondering what you meant by "there wouldnt be anything there", they will wonder if the paper is blank and will be focused on it. Then, the effect of a piece of paper that they wrote something onto, completely going up in a flash will be a pretty powerful illustration. BroDavid

An object lesson to use in a more intimate setting is this one:
Kids (or adults) write down a sin of their's on a piece of FP and nail (pin) it to a small cross. You speak about how God's forgiveness wipes all our sins away. Light one of them and they all disappear in an instant. How to: Cut out a small Styrofoam cross and wrap the whole thing in tin foil (that way the cross can be used again and again). Cut out small pieces of FP and do the routine. When the lowest pinned piece is lit, it starts a chain reaction and they all "vanish" |

That's a great idea for adults, I'm not too sure I would do that effect for children under the age of ten or so.

Nice, Justin!
I especially like the chain reaction of fire on the sin slips. BroDavid

Here's an idea I've used many times in the past. It will require a large sheet of flash paper and the ability to do a rose-twisting out of paper. First, in all different sizes of letters, write "SIN" to represent how some people feel there are varying degrees of sin.... lying is not as bad as killing someone... that sort of stuff.
Then talk about how if someone talks about it enough, they try to make their sin look all nice and pretty (twist the rose at this time). Then, even though they have made it look nice, the sin still shows thru. However, it is not until we take our sins to God (represented by a candle that's been burning the entire time), the ONE, TRUE, Eternal Light of the world, that our sins can truly be forgiven. (Light the rose at this time... stem end first) AND, when we take our sins to God and are truly repentant, not only are we forgiven, but they are forgotten.... and never to return. Adults and kids seem to like this when I do it. One thing you need to be sure of is after you light the rose, you need to hold on to it for a few seconds to burn 1/2 to 3/4 of the length of the stem before tossing it into the air. It's a lot more effective when it finishes the burning while in the air and not on the ground. Also saves adults from examining the area afterwards for burn marks on the carpet or flooring! The only stupid question is the one not asked.

Justin Flom, (correct me if I am wrong Justin) did very nice floating paper rose to flash vanish at FCM Intl last year. (That was one of the few programs I got to see due to meetings, etc) but He and his lovely younger sister did a great routine and a floating flaming rose was part of it.
I think he may even have produced a real rose at the end. I don't remember all of the specifics, but I know I enjoyed the routine immensly.... Watch out for Justin, folks! He is a performer on the rise! Margarette, I think your idea is terrific and I certainly am going to find a place to use the concept of our trying to make our sins look good to God, in some kind of an effect, and the Rose sounds good. I use FP with the thumb tip. Show a silk and refer to it as your soul. Put in your hand (tip) Secretly you have the paper below the tip in your hand. Take the tip away as you get matches out of your pocket. Talk about the moment and the twinkling of an eye we will be raptured as you say this touch the flame to the fp.

I use flash paper to wrap up a coin and talk about storing treasures in heaven instead of on earth.
I ignite the paper to show how earthly treasures can vanish in an instant. If you don't know the coin wrap vanish, pm me.
