I've come up with an idea for an effect with a change bag, which is kind of a problem because I hate my change bag. It's one of those awful things with the handle, although I had the good sense some time earlier to rip off the hologram foil and sparkly gold embroidery. Has anybody ever made a change bag out of an ordinary cloth pouch/bag? Specifically I need it for the purpose of forcing a selection. Not really all that hard but I'm having a problem working out how a spec wouldn't feel the gaff when he/she reaches a hand inside.
Any suggentions or ideas would be great. Tx -Sean Covernton |

Sean:
Try searching for a "tote change bag". I believe it is made by Ickle Pickle. I have been using one for various bizarre effects for over 10 years. They are a velvet-type bag with a draw string and come in a variety of colors. Mine is green. Hope this helps. Magickally, Dave Birtwell |

If you can, get some one to loan you the T.A. Waters book Mind Myth & Magic, there is a beautiful force using any old bag (not my ex though) in there.

Sean,
I use a change bag in one Harry Potter-based routine. It is from Seams Like Magic (www.seamslikemagic.net) and is a wizard's pointed hat. It is extremely well made and works like a charm. Because of the bulky construction of the hat/bag, it solves the problem that you refer to, of the spectator noticing that here is "something else" in the bag. |

Sean,
What type of effects are you doing with the Change bag? Most magically yours, WR

Depending on the effect, the clear change bags can be extremely deceptive.

WR- My initial thought was to force a red stained miniature skull among white ones and then reveal who chose it in one of two ways, both of which I am very excited about trying. However since the bulk of these objects is becoming an issue I might change the nature of the selection from objects to slips of paper or something. Which could also be very effective for the final effect, but I'm investigating all my options here =)

Try the Guy Bavli change bag. Expensive but worth it! It is clear and even from a few cm distance the secret can't be seen.
Very clever - very good. |

The force you are talking about is covered by Max Maven in his VideoMind Video number 1. It is caled the Kurotsuke. Check out the video clip of it at Magic Smith.

I whole heartedly agree with Doug Byrd. I have been doing Maven's Kuratsuke for a long time and using large marbles. It's a great effect. You don't need a change bag, you can do the whole routine in a paper bag or any other prop. Get the video or DVD, it will provide you with some great additional material.

I'd thought of that, but it raises the question of the last 2. I'd also been working on a force where the "bag" is made from my cupped hands and a silk. but I think that might be too suspicious... but you never know... might be worth a try.

The question of the last two is well covered on the Maven tape. Do check it out; it's exactly what you're looking for. Trust me.

Hi just an update as I noticed that our old website address was mentioned. You can find our pentagran change bags at:
http://www.blackhart.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/page35.html Or of course you can go to our website at: http://www.blackhart.co.uk Incidentaly I use the Guy Bavli change bag for my routine 'Regression'. It is a very good professional piece of equipment for stage work. I highly recommend it. If you want a small tarot type bag for seance or readings then our pentagram change bag is ideal. Try looking for an "Irish Change Bag"--at least, I think that is what they are called. I have a couple, and they cost around ten dollars each. They basically look like a fabric bag without all of the suspicion of the handle type. Or better yet, check out Blackhart's change bag. I have purchased a few things from him, and I have never been disappointed.

I have one that I purchased from Mary Tomich at the Phoenix Gathering two years ago. I don't know if Mary will be selling them again but it might be worth checking into. This one is green velvet and just looks like a nice cloth bag.

Greetings.
LOL-Kaytracy! Sean, you know me, my advice would be the same to you as others: check out "Kurotsuke" on Maven's dvd. As a side note, long ago, I did this routine with glazed M+m's (so they wouldn't melt). And let me tell you, I had NO IDEA that my "Rocky the Racoon" had such a sensitive nose! I mean-he could always find the brown one because that was his favourite one! I guess it shouldn't have come as that big of a surprise after all....lol. Cheers, J.Warrens |
