Has anyone seen this DVD and had experience with the flying knot? What did you think of it, and how has it worked for you?

I just checked out the website and watched the demo:

Well, it is the same effect. Tony Clark uses a gimmick so it is easier, although I have to admit the gimmick offers some challenges: Thus the reason for my post. Are you intrigued yet?

Intrigued? Yes, and just when I was comfortable with the knot routine (minus the Wrap-Over Knot). I'll be anxious to hear what transpires on this thread. Thanks for starting it even though it may end up costing me money!

Hi,
Sly Scarves DVD is really great. It's from an original routine that Slydini used. I think you already know Tony Clark was a student of Slydini. I think Tony wants to teach Slydini methods to new magicians with this DVD. For a comedy act or a Parlour performance it's great. I do think you have to look to find this DVD. Hey Nedim,
I agree with you about the Tony Clark Sly Scarves DVD. Have you found a replacement for the supplied gimmick? If so, what did you use? I'll share with you what I have found, but I am not satisfied that it is the best replacement at this point. Feel free to PM me. Thanks. |

Take a rubber band and cut it. Now wrap it around the base of your finger and knot it (over hand knot so that you have "ears" sticking away from the loop). Trim the ears a bit but leave enough to catch/grasp with the off hand. You will pull the ears opening the loop and allow you to do what is necessary with that loop. This is a version of the published Slidini technique.

Thank you Harry. Good call. I understand the technique was publised in Fulves book, the Magical World of Slydini. That will certainly work!

Just did this as part of a 20 min routine in front of 50 women. With quite an unbelievable response. It is important to use a smaller rimmed glasses as shown on Tony’s DVD and not large mouth glasses as shown on Slydini DVDs. After quite a bit of searching I found great replacement gimmicks, about 50 for a dollar. For me with some practice the Tony Clark method was much easier to do then the "traditional" Slydini method.

Has anyone tried using extremely small clear bands? I can't find exactly what I'm looking for, but I've seen them before - the small clear ones that are just big enough to fit around a finger (in their unstretched form). If anyone knows where to get them, I'd love to know.

They are found as “hair bands”.
There are two types readily available. 1. The ones that I like and works well look like small clear rubber bands I found these in the “dollar” store and there were (3) sizes (small, medium, and large) and two colors black and clear all for a dollar. (100’s of rubber hair bands). 2. I also found many more examples that looked the same as above in drug stores, and other stores as hair bands. But did not find out they would not work until I opened the package. They were not elastic bands but something that was more like plastic and once expanded did not go back to the original size that well. Why do I mention this, well I almost gave up as I ran across more types that did not work well and almost gave up.

In a pinch, buy latex (real rubber) tubing and cut slices of rings off like rubber bands. (Think folding coin!)

Perhaps you could check with your dentist. I think they're also used for braces.
