UFC 75. I can't wait for it. I am kind of confused about the "Unification" part of the main event though. So whoever wins, Jackson or Henderson, will they have both the UFC light-heavy weight belt and the PRIDE Middle-weight belt? Or will there only be one belt after this? Well my predictions will only focus on the main card.
Well I am picking Dan "Hollywood" Henderson to win the main event over Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. Why? Well I got to give it to the man who holds two titles in two different weight classes, Henderson. Also have to give it to the man who KOed Wanderlei Silva. I'll even go so far and say it will probably be in the 3rd round. Sorry, Quinton, nothing personal. I love the way Quinton acts though, quite the character. As for Matt Hamill vs. Michael Bisping, I have to give it to Bisping. Probably a win in the second round. Home field advantage. The man is a very well rounded fighter. Probably win by submission or by dicision. Ah, Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipović vs. Cheick Kongo. I am excited for this. I really like Kongo, has great potential, from what I have seen needs to work on his ground game. And that only tells me that he is going to stand up with Mirko, which is both their game. And I like Crop Cop. This I find hard to call. Crop Cop coming off a very hard loss, getting knocked out by Gonzaga in an shocking upset... And Kongo is a big guy... But I see Crop Cop scraping by with a win. Houston Alexander vs. Alessio Sakara, hmmm.... I see Alexander winning by KO. Paul Taylor vs. Marcus Davis, I see Davis rolling over this guy. I'll have to leave work early to get home in time to watch from start to finish, heh.

Well, that was an interesting fight.
Quinton Jackson defeated Dan Henderson via unanimous decision after five rounds to become the undisputed champion. That was a really good fight I thought it was kind of back and forth, or 60/40 on the side of Jackson. Michael Bisping defeated Matt Hamill via split decision after three rounds. This was a screwy fight, I didn't see Bisping with a clear advantage in any of the rounds. All I saw was him eating jabs and backing away from Hamill. Hamill should have won that by unanimous decision. Judges weren't watching the same fight I was. Cheick Kongo defeated Mirko Filipović via unanimous decision after three rounds. This was pretty good as well. Cro Cop was way to hesitant, I think he isn't confident in his abilities after losing to Gonzaga. Kongo's ground game and such as improved greatly since I saw him last. Marcus Davis defeated Paul Taylor via submission due to an armbar at 4:14 of the first round. Just what I expected. Houston Alexander defeated Alessio Sakara via TKO due to strikes at 1:01 of the first round. I was off by a t.

I hate working every Saturday as I miss the PPV now. The bar right down the street here shows them ALL and I miss them.
Now corect me if I am wrong but don't the same guys who own UFC also own PRIDE? Not a bad little business they have going.

I thought it was great for a free show. If the fights lasted that long I might get a ppv once in a while. Did you catch that they mentioned Brock Lesnar coming? I will get that PPV just to see him get his _ss beat.
If they own Pride, I like that they are having the champions fight but NOT ALL the champions on the same night. |

Yes the owners of UFC, zuffa, now own Pride as well.
And a fight doesn't have to last 3 or 5 rounds to be good. They mentioned Lensar, but only once. Personally I think that him trying to get into MMA is a joke. Although he is training with Royce Gracie apparently. And I was mistaken the fight between Jackson and Henderson was for the UFC light-heavy weight belt only. To Jackson just retained his title.

UFC...don't know anything about it as I've never seen it. Isn't it owned by the brothers that own the Station Casino companies?

He seemed a bit cautious - could have been a combination of the jitters (he hasn't fought in the Octagon since UFC 17 nearly 10 years ago) not to mention that he and Quinton Jackson are good friends. Still, a decent fight although I nodded off sometime during round 3. Quote:

Bisping did win round 3 but he didn't dominate it the way Hammil dominated round 1, but regardless, the score is still the same. that leaves Round 2 as the deciding round. Hammil took down Bisping right at the start but he let him back up. The second time he took Bisping down, Bisping got back to his feet and actually landed a lot of his strikes and controlled the pace (was more agressive). I still think Hammil won that round but when you leave it in the judges hands, you end up with controversial decisions. The fact that it was in England and Bisping is from england didn't hurt him either. The thing that bothered me was how disrespectful Bisping was. He acted like he knocked out Hammil when in reality he was given a gift. Quote:

He was heavily favored because he was supposedly the superior striker and definitely better on the ground. I guess they forgot to tell cheick Congo that. LOL. Cro Cop did get a couple of nutshots that probably slowed him down as well. Congo did look better on the ground but Cro Cop looked lost. Quote:

Davis has dramatically improved from a one dimensional fighter to a potential contender in the UFC. He had no ground game two years ago and now he has submitted two UFC opponents back to back. Quote:

He destroyed two tough fighters in the last two UFC's. Maybe they will feed Bisping to him. I would love to see Bisping eat some of those shots and knees. Coming soon - UFC Fight Night on September 19 (and the series premiere of Ultimate Fighter Season 6) and UFC 76 on September 22.

The way Jackson talks, or trash talks, just reminds me of Ali lol.
Hamill's attacks I found predictable. That weird almost straight arm left jab with his head backa nd tilted down, a head kick would have destroyed him heh. Bisping didn't seem as eager as he did when he fought elvis. Didn't look as big either. And yes that was a lot of talk from his victory by a hair. If they wanted to give Cro Cop a moral boost they would have given him another Eddie Sanchez, but Kongo looks like he can be very dangerous if he gets the right training. And Houston Alexander, to be honest, the man scares me lol. Certainly not playing around. The fight night doesn't interest me as much as 76. That match between Chuck Liddell and Keith Jardine is a no contest IMO lol. The fight between Mauricio Rua and Forrest Griffin gets more of my attention. I am surprised about all the people who count out Griffin so quick though. I think Diego Sanchez is going to come back with a fury against Jon Fitch.

Cro Cop needs to consider dropping down to light heavyweight. He is a small heavyweight and is 1-2 in the UFC against unranked opponents (Gonzaga wasn't ranked until he took Cro Cop's head off). I think he could be dangerous at 205 - he is a huge bust as a heavyweight.
Word on the street is that Shogun isn't taking Forrest seriously and isn't training hard. Forrest is training like a madman. I want forrest to win. the Pride fighters are good but seem to be a bit overrated. I think Diego is going to kill Jon Fitch.

Yes, I remember talking to my cousin about that when it was first released that Cro Cop was coming to UFC. I thought that he is at the weight that he could go either way in terms of weight classes. That would be interesting to see.

I'm looking forward to the big fight between Willie "The Magenta Slugger" Mawoski vs. Conan "The Hun" O'Brian. Blood will fill the streets!

I hated to see Cro Cop loose...again. I so wanted to see him redeem himself with a left high kick.
Everybody I talked to thought Henderson had that one in the bag.I really gave the edge to Jackson in that one because Henderson isn't a natural Light Heavyweight and an important thing to remember about him knocking out Silva is that Silva had a high fever and strep throat during that fight. I don't care about the Lidell/Jardine fight.I also don't care about the Silva/Franklin rematch. I'm really hoping Griffin beats Shogun because a lot of people on message boards (and other places) have Shogun built up as some kind of comic book superhero. Yes, I've seen him fight and Yes, he is awesome but I'm getting tired of the Shogun worship. When is Fedor coming to the UFC? That's a rhetorical question- I've read all about the stipulation of getting contracts for other Red Devils team memebers and him still wanting to compete in Sambo matches. Sorry for the mindless rambling, I just wanted to write down a few of my thoughts on the MMA scene. |
