Are the Springboks the team from South Africa?
I play soccer (football) in a league in the USA, and there was a team that had a name which was an animal I had never heard of before. Someone told me it was native to South Africa. I can't remember it exactly, but the "....boks" part of the word sounds very familiar.... Jonah Lomu (sp?) is the only Rugby player I have ever really known anything about, but he is retired now, isn't he? Did his medical (kidney) problems end his career?

I will not tolerate this racism! Our proud black brothers should not have to fight animals regardless of cultural expression. Shame...shame on you all!

Sweet Mother of Mercy! I hope your tongue is firmly in your cheek for that last post! I can’t believe that you think a statement about a killer New Zealand rugby team called the “All Blacks” is raciest!

The Springbok is a small brown and white gazelle that stands about 75 cm high. The males can weigh up to 50 kg and the females up to 37 kg.
Springbok inhabit the dry inland areas of south and southwestern Africa. Their range includes south and southwestern Africa, mainly in the countries of Namibia, Botswana, Angola and the Republic of South Africa. They used to be very common, forming some of the largest herds of mammals ever documented, but their numbers have diminished significantly since the 19th century due to hunting and land being fenced off as farm land. Hi Chheety!
The Puma's wrecked the French party last night! Big surprise though Argentina have a great record in France against the French.Opens up the group of "Death" Our game(Ireland) against France is going to be crucial,If we win the hostrs are out and the final pool game against the Puma's will decide first place.Second placed team in the group face the All Blacks They looked great today and against an emerging Italian team too! The Italiand won two games in the sixth nations(Scotland and Wales) so there not a poor team at all!I reckon they will beat Scotland and take second place Were starting tomorrow against Namibia, they would have any real standing in World Rugby at this stage so should be an easy victory, there World Cup final will be against Georgia to decide who comes fourth. I reckon All Black's should win it though then again the best team dosent always win it!Ireland to top our group and make the final four Pete |

Doesn't matter. I was at The Black Rose in Boston when Ireland won a World Cup game and the streets were full of drunk, singing, Irish guys who didn't care how convincing the game was or wasn't.

Lol magicsanta we meet again! Good point though you see we needed to score as much as possible because our group may go down to points difference Namibia are the worst ranked team in the competition so it was vital to put up a good score against them Its going to be tough to get out of the group.
World Cup 94 my favourite of all time! |

Ouch, I see that Canada got hammered by Wales. I don't fancy our chances against Australia or Fiji, either. Rugby is one of those sports where the gap between the best and the rest is simply HUGE.

Hey John,
It was close at half time, though the Welsh have a big squad so as the game wore on you were getting tired while the Welsh could bring on fresh legs.Austraila hammered Japan and Fiji are always competitive.I reckon Canada will beat Japan though so hopefully get a few points on the board Pete |

Interesting, I thought Canadians were only into Curling.

We have an odd habit of watching our teams in any international competition. The Women's world cup of soccer (football) is on, and is getting a pretty good TV audience. We watch our rowing teams, too.
But yes, curling does attract a strangely large audience. John

Does Canada have any hope of ever winning at Rugby, I mean, other than if the other teams are in a massive in air collision in route to the world cup?

Winning it all? Not in my lifetime. I do recall a number of years ago (early 90s) seeing Canada defeat Wales on TV and hearing the commentators saying "And Wales is going to to defeat to Canada, of all people." In sports other than hockey and curling, we live for the little victories.
