New effect created by Wayne Houchin, who also marketed Sinful and Stigmata. It isn't officially released until October 1st, but 300 pre release copies have been sold. I'd like a review of this if possible as I'm sure some Café users have gotten a pre release. The effect seems to be the same as Moving Point. Cyril Takayama performed a version of this where he turned a 4 of diamonds into a 6 of diamonds, you could see the pips moving. In my opinion, the only reason to buy distortion instead of Moving Point is for the index switching move Houchin teaches. One could easily come up with another way though so I'll just be getting Moving Point. Moving point is $15 from penguin magic and I believe Distortion is $25. |

I just want to know the quality of the gimmick card. Is it the same with the one sold by magichall?

Moving point have only one pipe moving, on the other hand the distortion gimmick has two. In my opinion has a more magical look. You can get that gimmick at magic conventions or certain online shops. The one in the convention(from some Jap guy) is of such high quality. I have distortion on the way though, will review distortion once I get it and compare the gimmick to the one from the convention.

Yep, I too was offended by the the term you mention above.
Also the demo doesn't show anything.

I was offended by the term too, since I am a great fan of Japanese magic .
For your information, there is a great version of moving pips in the book "Five Times Five: Japan," which will be reprinted by Kaufman&Company in early October. Best, Charles

I got it, but the card is delicate and although the reactions it gets are huge, its not something that I would work. Unfortunately I had to pass this effect on. as this is hand made, and once it breaks it breaks. Im rather rough with my cards from doing flourishes and sybils, I might ruin this and its really expensive to replace.
The DVD was really clear on how to perform it and shows how it should be handled clearly. 7/10 due to how delicate it is.
...for the 51st time... that is NOT my card...

The effect in 5x5 Japan is called New Era Moving Pips I believe. This is a worse/older version in my opinion because you rely on a gimmicked box that can't be inspected. If you look at the theory 11 demo, in the end of it, Houchin does switch the indexes from a 4 to a 6.
Are you sure that moving point only moves one pip while distortion moves 2? Some of the people from ellusionist who have pre release copies of distortion were complaining about the quality of the gimmick. In the dvd Houchin even says how one must constantly be moving the gimmicked card so spectator's wont see the gimmick. Could someone please contrast the Moving Point gimmick with the Distortion gimmick for me? |

Moving point has a 4 of diamonds to 6 of diamonds version by Seo magic that has 2 pips moving. So I'll be getting that and just do a bertram change in the end to switch the indexes.

Does anyone know the quality of the Seo magic gimmick?
Due to the nature of such a gimmick, Distortion or otherwise, it doesn't surprise me that one has to keep the card moving, though I believe that it will actually increase the efficiency of the illusion. People will stare at the card trying their best to get a good look at it and that's of course when you put the gimmick into action, which means that you'll hit them when they are the most focused.

All I know, is when I saw this live it was very entertaining and visual! It was also funny at one point, as he was waving the card we thought it was a card minipulation routine and the the pips started moving. It was crazy! I am defently buying this one asap!

I got this effect as soon as it came out, even though the demo showed nothing. (It's made by W:H, how can you go wrong?) And so far my gimmick is doing great, as long as you follow wayne's instructions (which seem pretty easy) I love this effect, and if you buy distortion you can get more gimmicks when the official release comes out. (for different cards, and pips) I give it a 9/10, because the gimmick I got was great and the DVD was well taught.

This is the first time I've seen a moving pip trick in action, so as you can imagine, this is pretty exciting . I heard that the gimmick only came in blue bicycle version though, and since I use red bikes...well, ok, not the greatest reason not to get this, but I too would like to see a large, detailed review on it before buying.
