The future of magic is now safe.
It is in the hands of people with all the answers. What a relief! What is your next project? The war on drugs or poverty perhaps? World peace? ProActive? Where can I buy a placard? Destiny |

They try and impress other magicians by naming some trick created by a dead magician... This is my problem with this pablum-fueled revolution: When we forget those who created the realm of magic that we enjoy today; those who created the effects, the routines, the techniques and the following that we draw upon because they are "Some dead magicians" then the true art in what we do is lost. All one has to do is look around to see that there is and always has been the freedom to express one's artistic soul through magic. If one is so thin-skinned that the only way he feels he can achieve this "freedom" of magical expression is by starting a petition to shut up those who might critique his like...well... Once again, I'm with Drew: Respect is earned. It can't be dictated.

Dude, you begin a thread about unity with "shut up and listen"?? To two 14 year old magicians? Who do you really think you're talking to?

Um ... I noticed no-one's signed your petition. Zero. This thread, however, might make it onto another page. What's that tell ya?

Cody, I'm sorry, but odds are that you are not the future of magic. There are a lot of professions out there, and life has a tendency to take people in a lot of strange, unforeseen directions. Magic may be your life now, but who knows what your life will be in 10 years when you will probably be fending for yourself.
Second, there are jerks everywhere. To use your own words, you'll have to deal with it. If you are not being respected by an unusually large number of people, then the fault might lie with your approach. I've done very little in magic to be respected for, but I find that my views and opinions on this forum are treated pretty much with as much respect as they are due. I've been to forums which seem to be inhabited by snarling attack dogs, but the Magic Café is far from that. Finally, people are people, but they're not all the same. Not all opinions are equally valuable. The more informed opinion is the more valuable opinion. Opinions from those with more experience are more valuable than opinions from those with less experience. A person with a restaurant gig will have more experience than someone who has never done magic professionally. Is he god? No. Does he think he's god? Probably not, but there might be good reason to respect his post over that of a poster with less experience. It doesn't mean the person with more experience is always right, but it does mean that the person with more experience will have a greater chance of being right than those with less experience. A few things to think about. Bill |

According my experience in magic business, what need to be changed is not something that start by this thread...
As for me, such kind of slogan seems a little bit immature. Maybe I am not aware of what you want to share with us. On the other hand, I got respect most of the time from peers and professional magicians, and magic wholesalers.
Most memorable moment - with Maestro Juan Tamariz & Consuelo Lorgia in FISM Busan 2018.

And the current total count of signatures is....
...still zero.
If you can pull it off in a biker bar without being violated by a corn dog, more power to you.
