...I'm still in a bit of shock meself!
The other night at my restaurant I approched a table and begin doing my thing. Everyone seems very impressed and entertained except for one guy seated closest to me. Nothing seems to impress him. I begin going into my card work. I was going to do a multiple selection/location routine with 10 different selections. I got them all back in the deck and set the cards on my table as I begin to address the audience. Suddenly the guy who hasn't been impressed up to this point grabs the deck from the table and says "if he's so good at magic, let's see him find your cards now," and he begins to shuffle up the deck. I almost freaked out...however, I noticed that as he was shuffling he was using the zarrow shuffle. He did 3 in a row and slapped the deck back down on my table and said, "ok hotshot...you're on!" and gave me a small wink. Could this be true? A silent magician that was trying to make me look good? I had to test the waters. I located 5 of the 10 cards and asked him to give the deck a cut. He did the Vernon False Cut. Still in shock...I went on with my routine and located the other 5 cards. The table went nuts!!! They kept saying...wow...this guy is hot stuff...someone else shuffled and he was still able to pull it off...WOW! I finshed up with Matrix and (again) changed it up hoping this guy would bite...and he did! I took all the coins and stuck them in my Goshman purse. Then I vanished the purse. I asked the guy to check his pockets and see if there was a little surprise in there. He did and sure enough, the SOB had a black goshman purse with 4 halfs in there. The table thought I was Criss Angel or something (which I kinda was since he was a plant...tho non intentional). Not sure what I would have done if he didn't have a purse on him. I never got this magi's name and didn't want to blow his cover (and my own at that point) but if you're out there Mr. Mystery Magic Guy...THANK YOU VERY MUCH and shoot me a PM. Not sure if I would have the #$&% to do what you did to another performer...but still feel like one day I should pay it forward. He even came buy and tipped me $20 while I was at ANOTHER table to help plant the seed. This guy was great!!!! Still in shock....

That is only something one can dream about and here you are telling us the story. I envy you for having that story to tell everytime you are shooting the sh*t with fellow magicians. I hope you are able to find this Mystery Magician and give him real thanks.
By the way, how were his Zarrows? |

Great story.
Only once did something like this happen to me a convention. Somehow the other magi and me just silently connected and made some stuff up on the spot. |

Wow, that's fantastic. It's very nice to hear about a fellow magician helping out another when so often young new guys feel they have to make things difficult and try to take the attention.
He was obviously a professional (at the least in manners). |

Now that is one fantastic story!!! Write it down and save it so you won't forget it years down the road. That is definitely "one for the books."
Probably made you feel like tipping HIM for the undercover help. You, sir, have an angel sitting on your shoulder! Mark. |

What were the chances of him having the Goshman purse, great post. I'll bet he had some sponge balls and a TT too.

I had the opportunity just once to do that at a festival. The guy did that biting the quarter that the Blainiacs love so much and people started the "lets see you use my quarter biotch" stuff. I had a special quarter on me and I caught his eye and said "try this one" and he just took it and then it struck him and he did the trick, handed it back and I switched in a normal one that I showed to the others and I left. Never ran him down again but he loved it I'm pretty sure.

The other people at the table did not know he was a magician? Amazing! Congrats on making the best out of a rare situation.

Lylemagic, have you ever thought about writing a book on your history with restaurant magic?

I do not know that the others didn't know he was a magician. Maybe they did??? If they did, nothing was ever said and I never asked as the cover would have been blown!
Dynamike...I think there are many others who are far more qualified than I to do such...I'm not sure if my experience makes me the "athority" on the subject. I've been very lucky in my career.
