Thank you to everyone who has posted kind words about this project. In addition to the reviews on this thread, there is also now a review here: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......um=159&0
I probably won't be posting any more on this particular thread, but I will monitor it just in case someone posts a question. I'm also happy to answer questions anyone might have via PM or e-mail. Thanks again for the great support I've received on this project from Spellbinder, Marty "Martini" Grams, and everyone else who has had such kind words about this e-book. It truly was a labor of love for me and I'm very excited about the two projects I have planned for 2008: The "I STILL Hate Cards" Book of Card Tricks which is, of course, a sequel of sorts to this e-book, and "Kards for Kids" which will be a compilation of card tricks developed with the children's entertainer in mind. I challenge the conventional wisdom that you can't (or shouldn't) perform card tricks for children. These will utilize more traditional card sleights, but within the context of colorful, kid-friendly themes (using many custom-made cards) and routines.

I've been getting a lot of inquiries about the effects in the e-book I'm currently working on ("I STILL Hate Card Tricks"). Since I also offer them separately as individual effects, I've decided to go ahead and release the seven that are currently complete.
******************************************* The following effects are now available to order at The Magic Nook: The Origami Queen This effect was inspired by Jim Steinmeyer's "Origami" illusion made famous by David Copperfield. As I stated in the preface of The "I Hate Card Tricks" Book of Card Tricks, a literal adaptation of this effect would not be very deceptive using a flat playing card. I felt that this remarkable illusion deserved to be represented, however, so I set out to develop a method using cards that would be astonishing. A signed Queen is placed into an envelope. The envelope is folded into a small packet. When it is unfolded, the signed Queen is removed completely intact. It has not been folded. In Over His Head How long can a playing card hold its breath? The King of Hearts reenacts the death-defying "Water Torture Cell" escape made famous by Houdini. The King is locked into the cell and placed “underwater.” The spectator verifies that the King is securely shackled. Yet, he escapes effortlessly right before the spectator’s eyes. The spectator handles all the props before and after the effect. You can even let them take the whole thing home as a souvenir! Royal Interlude This effect was inspired by Jim Steinmeyer's "Interlude" illusion. A signed King is placed into a playing card "cabinet." The Queen passes directly through the King. Both cards (as well as the "cabinet") can be examined before and after the effect. Jack B. Quick The Jack moves so quickly that the spectator can't keep up. Each phase becomes progressively more impossible. Just when it seems as if Jack has vanished completely, he turns up in an impossible location such as a wallet or even the spectator’s pocket! The Jack even jumps right into the spectator’s own hands! Finally, the Jack is signed. The card is shaken rapidly back and forth causing the Jack to become visibly blurred. Includes a bonus handling that allows you to perform this effect as a follow-on to "Jack B. Nimble." The Fifth Beatle Each of the “Fab Four” is pictured on a card. On a fifth card is some unknown guy... “The Fifth Beatle.” You are their manager. Which Beatle is going to get fired? As you show the cards, the band members keep changing. In the end, you are fired and go on to manage a new group, "The Beetles." The cards are shown again and they have all changed into beetles (insects). Whatever became of “The Fifth Beatle?” He is transformed into a Volkswagon Beetle. TBA Originally, this title was just a place-holder (TBA = "to be announced"). But given my penchant for puns, I decided to stick with the name. Only, in this case, it stands for TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY! Three cards are shown and placed face-down on the table: a Jack, a Queen, and a time bomb. The included patter is based on the popular television series "24." The effect, however, is not dependent upon that theme. Feel free to develop your own storyline if you like. You introduce Jack Bauer (the Jack, of course) and his assistant, Chloe (the Queen). As usual, they are up against the clock to find and disarm a terrorist bomb. The cards are mixed up (no fancy Three Card Monte moves required). No matter how hard he tries, the spectator can't avoid the bomb. The reason... terrorists never plant just one bomb. You reveal that all three cards have changed to bombs. Just to make things fair you give him one last chance. Not only does the spectator choose the bomb, it has exploded and made a mess of the other cards! Girls Gone Wild! In this "naughty" effect, Jokers represent guys on spring break in search of some ladies. You alternate between showing Jokers and Queens. For the shocking finale, you show (in perhaps the most revealing revelation ever) four TOPLESS Queens! Also includes a 100% clean version ("Totally Wild Jokers") with a Poker theme. Jokers change into five different cards and back. Then they change into a Royal Flush with different color backs! ************************************** The remaining three should be finished up before too long. I'm getting "Geometric Queen" finished up (hopefully this week). "Connecticut Yankee" is technically complete, but I still have one loose end to tie up before it is released. A number of people have expressed interest in pre-ordering this e-book. I'm going to do one better and offer a $5 off pre-order discount. Just add seven effects from this e-book to your shopping cart and notate that you are pre-ordering the complete e-book. I'll send you the remaining effects automatically as they are released. I'll also send the final version of the e-book as a single .pdf file with the preface, foreword, table of contents, etc. added. One last caveat... I may decide to substitute a different effect for "Up, Up & Away." Let not your heart be troubled, though. If I do, it will be because I decided on something even better! In case you missed out on Book 1, it is still available either as a complete volume or the effects can be purchased individually. Bob Day 3

If this book is half as good as it's predecessor, then it will be twice as good as the majority of new e-releases (which is clearly saying a lot). I had the good fortune of previewing "In over His Head" and then jumped at the opportunity to pre-order the remaining items. Magicbob has struck a nerve in me and tapped into my already dominating love for creating gaffs and such. Not only am I excited to receive the new book, I am already anxiously in line to purchase the upcoming kids cards book.
Many thanks to you, Bob! |

Thank YOU for the kind words, Magiguy! I've got a lot of the work done on "Kards for Kids" but it's on the back-burner until I get this one completed. I promise to work diligently on it as soon as I pull this iron out of the fire.

Update:
I'm currently hard at work on Volume 3 of "I Hate Card Tricks." I'm also pleased to announce the launch of my newest book, "Sticky Situations" which is a collection of somewhat more traditional packet effects (although several of them incorporate my usual twisted sense of humor). For more information, visit the website: http://www.magicnook.com/magicbob Click here to view attached image.

The initial response to "Sticky Situations" has been positive. Martin Lewis had this to say:
Quote:
Things are progressing well on the next installment of "I Hate Card Tricks." After months of developing the effects (which was slowed down a bit becuase I was concurrently preparing the manuscript for "Sticky Situations"), I'm now hard at work getting everything typed up, photographs taken, etc. I'm looking at a release date in the next month or so. I'll keep everyone posted. Bob
