Yes, he may not have said it, but you might recall the aphorism: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
Now think about this. Let's say he disagreed with the right for people to say something... How then would he be able to call the guy who "Talked Smack" (To use the vernacular) to him, a poopy head? So, I believe you all have the right to free speech, because I have a lot of bad names I want to be able to call you. I am like Voltaire, except I have the guts to write stuff that has been attributed to me.

Josh: Shut up! Go away! Get lost! Abuse yourself! Stick your finger up your nose! But don't use your finger, and don't use your nose. You are a giant POOPY HEAD!
Actually, I love you Josh. I just have this theory that the automatic anti-abusive-talk filter will asterisk my entire last paragraph. |

And my theory sucked. So what are you complaining about, Josh? Censorship does not exist! At least not here in the Café!
I have proved it! Everyone who does not agree: SHOVE PEANUTS UP YOUR ORIFICES! |

Everyone missed my point (Except Josh #2, 'cause I am).
This wasn't necessarily against censorship, because like at the Café' a moderator can say what they want and still censor you. That's the best of both worlds. I believe that if he was a moderator Voltaire would have never even considered such a thing as his attributed statement. If you can secure your own freedom of speech and yet limit that of others you are either the present President, or a moderator. For everyone else (Remembering that Voltaire was neither President or a Internet Moderator) it is only practical to fight for the freedom of speech. Because as history will show, you can limit my freedoms, but you will also limit your own.

Josh, I'm the only one other than Josh that actually gave a verbal response. So I'm the only one who didn't get your point.
Don't worry about it. If you lose sleep waiting on me to get the point of everything, you'll get seasick. GO VOLTAIRE! (Or not? Are you for or against him? I'm confused.) |

'Poopy Head' is so 2 years ago!
The term is now 'Pee Pee Hat'...and it is certified authentic and gen-u-ine as heard used on the crowded blvd of Main Street USA, Disneyland. Get with the times old dudes!

SOMETHING sparked Josh to start this thread ... what could it have been? ... hmmm ... could it be maybe SATAN? (Sorry, got carried away by the Church Lady there).
I don't always agree with the vigor with which the Mighty Overlords of the Café delete posts they find worrisome - in fact, things often disappear without a trace before we see them. But internet social networking seems to bring out an unavoidable "wild West" rowdiness that supercedes many people's better nature and judgment. Things get VERY nasty very quickly - witness the vitriol flung daily on the Yahoo Sideshow World board, to a degree that some good members just give up and quit. That said, I'm more frustrated by the combination of three factors: (1) the "you have no right to criticize Mommy and Daddy" attitude we often get when things get a little rowdy, combined with (2) the low tolerance for sensitive topics (everything has to be sweet enough for a 4-year-old - this may not be the place for heated discussions, but I've had posts deleted because 'someone's children might be looking at the computer'), and (3) the "shut up, you are guests and you owe us" response that comes back whenever anyone complains about the tight rein kept on things - I see no evidence that this is a charity, or a hobby, and without members the advertising dollars (however much or little they may be) would dry up. But then, this whole thread is likely to vanish as soon as it draws notice, because we're not allowed to be unhappy. |

I'm not unhappy, I am as happy as a puppy with an itchy buttock. Everyone needs something to chew on.
The first mistake that most of you made especially stoneunhinged, (Who knows what Carona wanted) and the old guy and the last guy, but not Josh #2 was to assume I had a point. Even assuming I had a reason to post other than it being morning (Then) and I was sober. But let me make up the point I wasn't making, but I can now say I was making: Censorship's largest problem is it's inevitable impact. I find something you say distasteful, to say it becomes an enforceable offence. You now find something I say to be distasteful. I have set the precedent that taking your voice is lawful. So I lose mine. Voltaire was only being practical, he was a writer, he didn't want his work censored, he didn't censor you in fact he fought against it. Assuming that was in fact his quote. There is no law, no rule that restricts a freedom that does not lead the way to the loss of another. We as a society have an unfortunate habit of disposing of or at the least disregarding the rights of our neighbors, while at the same time finding cause for great indignation when they do the same to us. Now imagine 6 billion people who all believe and speak very different things, except this one: "Your freedom of speech is irrelevant because what you say is wrong and dangerous. My freedom of speech is incontrovertible, because my opinion is correct and beneficial" In America we have 300,000, and I don't like the way it's going. No one may speak, or everyone must.
