Did anyone here order it? How does it stand up to Loraynes material? How does it differ?

I can't speak for the quality of it, but you can find the course here:

Thanks.
I have visited his site and received the mini course, but can't quite judge if it's simply Lorayne stuff. I have also written Jay, but of course he doesn't reply (seems like a natural law for sites that want to sell stuff, they never reply). |

Please! They've been coming out of the woodwork since my first book in 1956 - I could show you a list a "mile" long, including Dr. Joyce Brothers and, yes, Walter Gibson and Morris Young. If you really want to train your memory, just go to harrylorayne.com and/or memoryimprovement.org. And, as I've been doing for years - for magic friends I give a substantial discount. Be wary of the "fly-by-nights." HARRY LORAYNE. (Sorry that my voice is hoarse! Just finished the Random House audio book for my next book (AGELESS MEMORY) coming out in January - it's geared toward us "senior citizens" (a phrase I dislike).

Thanks for replying Mr Lorayne.
I have read a couple of your books on memory, and they are good. However, the major system doesn't work that good for me, and I thought Jay might have another method (he hinted that he had), so I wanted to hear others opinions on his material. |

My cousin Norma was to be hostess for a State dinner and she had to remember names for numerous introductions. The State Department taught her the Lorayne method using associations. But, Norma can be a bit scatterbrained at times.
At the gala she introduced Mr. White to Mr. Goodyear. One of the men corrected her introduction, "That's Mr. Firestone." I told her she would have been better to visualize a burning stone. Nevertheless, we all had a good laugh over it.

Ah, too bad, Mikael. If the "Yoda of memory training" (that's me, according to Time Magazine), and who has helped literally millions of people, can't help you - if you have to go to fly-by-night imitators, you do have a problem. Sorry. Of course, you're obviously not applying my systems correctly, "jokes" like Kregg's notwithstanding. Too bad. Good Luck - HARRY LORAYNE.

The Jennings mini course has a 60 day money back guaranty. Sounds like it's worth a shot.

Mikael, like everything we do we must practice. We are good at magic not because we read material on magic, but, because we apply the material until we can do it without thinking.
Mr. Lorayne's system does work. I once used it to remember the names of an audience of over fifty people. Also, remember to read. drink water and maintain a healthy nutritional diet.

I have practiced it for between 5 and 10 years now. How much practise does it need?
It's not that it's completely ineffective, it's just that it's not as effective as claimed. For ME, let me stress that. Other stuff works just as good as claimed, but the number thing... I'm sorry, no. It's only natural that the same method works differently good for different persons, I think everyone agrees with that. If, for example, we take Dominic O'Brien's method for remembering numbers, using people instead of numbers, it's TOTALLY worthless for ME. Although I have a tremendous memory when it comes to people and faces, it still was impossible to link PEOPLE the way he does. For me it seems like I can't for my life see several persons in one picture the way he does. What I found was that instead it's really easy for me to see THINGS and link them together. But still, it doesn't work as good as it should if you listen on any memory expert. And I have to ask you Mr Lorayne, even though it doesn't work to 100 % for a few people, surely you have to be content with the results of your methods, since obviously it works for most people, right? |
Harry Lorayne 1926 - 2023 New York City 8558 Posts |
Yes, it works for most people, Mikael. Stop with the silliness of trying to see people for numbers. Please! For God's sake, do you know the ten sounds? That's all you need in order to remember numbers "terrifically." Once you know the sounds you can make ANY number MEANINGFUL, be able to "see" that ordinarily abstract thing in your mind. If you know the sounds, and if you can Link "things" as you say you can, don't you see that simply linking, say, bird to computer to planting has enabled you to almost immediately remember the number 94173914952127 - a 14-digit number that you'll know forward and backward? Gotta' tell you, my friend, I teach the sounds to children in less than ten minutes. Then, during the same short lesson, they'll "do" 20-digit numbers forward and backward. Practiced for YEARS???!! If you do it right, it's the doing, the applying, that's the "practice." Years??? You're obviously doing something wrong. HARRY LORAYNE.

I'm sure Harry can't even remember how many lame memory jokes were better than that one, Matt.

On 2007-10-14 16:46, Harry Lorayne wrote: Yes, I know the ten sounds. The problem is that VERY often I can't come up with ANYTHING meaningful like computer or bird, because the numbers are not "easy" to translate to anything. Instead of computer and bird it's comguner and bivd. If I could come up with long words, of course it would be no problem. But it's impossible for me. Instead I have to translate that series of numbers to 7 two-digit numbers, 7 words, which are harder to remember than 3 words. And you would think that after 5-10 years it would be fast and easy, "second nature" to translate for example a phone number to two digit words, but it isn't. I have a very hard time seeing the numbers separately from each other, it's like when I read a word with double Ls between the letter i, for example milli, then I have big trouble seing if it's one or two Ls, or three or four, or if it's all the letter i. For example 23948698376138, I have a very hard time to see it as 23 94 86 98 37 61 38. It could as easily become 29 94 88 69 37 8, and then I discover I'm one number short, and I will have to do it all over again, failing one more time, and maybe I get it by the third or forth try. Also, I wouldn't be able to readily recite the letters of a word backwards like you say, it has always been a big problem for me. For me, the Major system is simply too much deciphering going on to work for me. My brain simply can't handle it. It might be because I have Tourettes syndrome and need VERY clear and "one at a time" info to be able to use it. |

From what you just told me I think perhaps it's your eyes that are the problem! You're seeing or not seeing digits. Too bad. HL
