Matthew, your site is awesome. Everything is easy to read and not to mention the eye-catching video! By the way, where can I find the T-Shirt that your wearing?

Hey,
Very nice of you to comment! Thanks! The t-shirt was from a UK shop called Topman... I got it in a sale a while ago though! M |

Thanks Matthew! I suppose Topman has this shirt all gone off the roof... You folks in UK have better fashion sense, IMHO! Cheers

Great site Matthew!! Thanks for the link.

The effects on the DVD and lecture notes are far beyond your abilities. (They require mastery of the mechanic's grip.) It would only break your heart. Sincerely, Darwin Ortiz.......(This post has got to be in my top 5.) |

I vaguely remember a Steve beam or a Dan Garcia effect which is exactly the same as in your video except that the climax was not a folded card.

Or stapled?
Then it's not the same. There are probably hundreds of transpositions. The end results, handling and patter is what makes an effect. Heck, there are only about 5 different types of effect to begin with. |

Meow Dave.
That comment seems a little unprovoked and unprofessional! Having never purchased any of your material I wouldn't like to comment on what you might know in such a manner. I think it depends how you categorise magic. You could put levitation for example in it's own category, or you could put it in a category of 'changing state - i.e. from 'not levitating' to 'levitating'. Having not read the list you refer to in Genii I cannot comment on how Roberto organised his list. I can say that any list the attempts to create genres or ‘types’ has limited use anyway... so one might as well make the list a narrow as possible. The five (or so) types of magic that I refer to are based on the book Magic in Theory. |

So what are the 5 you speak of?

I can’t remember off hand, the book is unfortunately not currently within my grasp.
Something like... Transposition Disappearance Reappearance?? XXX XXXX I remember reading it and it reminding me of the 'there are only seven types of story' line. |

Hmmm, but they could also be classed as changing state... somethings there then it's not, nothing there then there is, one item in one place and another in another... then they swap.
I feel there are many differeing styles of magic. |

I feel there are many differeing styles of magic. Of course, so do I. This isn't really an issue I wash to labour. It's just because Mr Forrest was so churlish, I thought I'd respond. There are many ways to categorise magic, and you should do so however you feel is most useful to you. My point is that no one list of 'types of magic' has any real merit or use. To narrow magic down to five or ten types is just as useful as having hundreds. |

Oh ok... lol
Anyway, Perfection Guaranteed looks to be quite a nice way of presenting this |

The above remarks are so utterly preposterous - I'm just totally bowled over by the utter lack of any real knowledge on display here. Honestly, at first I thought you might have been joking - I've read it again and again and you're actually serious, aren't you? I really fear for the future of 'IN-MAGIC'. Presumably there are only four more releases to come before you're back covering old ground again! Now, I'm off to 'change state' and watch some 'theatre'. By which I mean, go 'downstairs' and watch 'TV' but, I'm guessing you got that, didn't you? 'Cause there's really no need to categorise much further than that, is there? Best of luck man - fashionable or not, you DEFINITELY need it! Dave.

Yeah Dave, that's exactly what I said. Blah.

I’d rather release four more items than peddle a load of pedestrian tosh. But then if I ever did decided to, I’d know who to ask for a list of useful categories. I'm not sure why you feel the need to behave in such a manner but I'm not going to worry myself with it. Genre and type do have limited uses; for reference and discussion. It's a coda to save time and lengthy descriptions. If you get anymore specific you're not discussing 'type' anymore. |

As stated above, Steve Beam put this out years ago. Adding a staple & fold to the card does not make it an original effect, its more of a personalization of an existing effect. The effect is a dandy and your handiling is ok.
BUT... I have a problem with the way you titled this thread. You called it "Steve Fearson..." but it was deceptive to do so, as this thread really has nothing to do with him. You used his name to sell your trick and promote your site. This is not the forum to do that, and (in my opinion) is in poor taste. Please reconsider if you are going to do that again to promote something else. cb |

Keep in mind that it's the presentation that dictates the effects below.
For instance, a penetration could be presented as a transposition. Because of this fact these effects have been reduced from 19 to about (if I recall) 5 by some folks. -------------------- From The Trick Brain - by Dariel Fitzkee The Nineteen Basic Effects:

So is Steve Fearson a Brit magician or an American? I know he's a dealer; but does he start out as a magician? Inquiring minds want to know.. since the thread is in his name

Steve Fearson is a clever American magician who has worked with David Copperfield and releases a number of effects through http://www.downloadmagic.com
And yes Chris, it was a bit cheeky to start a topic with his name, but it's not entirely unrelated to the topic. Sorry if it offended. Also, I've contacted Steve Beam to get his take on the effect. Thanks for the information. |
