No problem to play the DVD in France. Very good DVD in which you can see John Ramsay performing his cylinder and coins routine.

I understand that the print media, in general, has to have ads to support the magazine since subscriptions alone can not fund such a business. What makes Genii such a fine magazine is not the number of pages but the quality of the content and the variety of content. In my opinion, Genii is a complete package. Thank you Richard for such a fine product.

I just placed a new subscription today, and was told my first issue would be March. What is up with that? It is only January 13th. The website shows January 2009 issue as current issue. It's January now. I order, and can't even get the current issue in my yearly subscription. This is disappointing.

Backlog, I guess...I ordered on November 21st -- a three year sub -- and my first issue is this January one. I recall they say on their sub site that it takes 4-6 weeks before first issue received.

I have got the same issue last year when I renew for 3 years. I just sent I email to Margret and ask her to start my subscription with january issue. She aggreed and sent to me the January a couple of days later.

Yes, they ended up making an exception because I am a new subscriber. I am glad they were easy to work with.

Advertising is a necessity in magazines and newspapers: it keeps us in business. You can see newspapers and magazines all over the United States going out of business--it's because their advertising revenue has dropped off the cliff. We must have advertising in Genii to pay the bills! Believe me, the folks at MAGIC wish they had as many ads as we do! When they used to have more ads than Genii, I felt the same way and wished we had as many ads as MAGIC did.
As far as the seeming delay between when you subscribe and what issue your subscription actually starts with: When you see an issue cover on our website (let's say it's the January issue), we have probably already sent the new issue--February (and its mailing list) off to the printer. So, the first issue of your subscription would be March because that is the next bulk mailing we will do. Our schedule may not be obvious if you're not in the magazine business, but that's how it works. As to why we generally cannot send out January and/or February issues when you subscribe after the February issue and its mailing list have gone off to the printer, the reason is simple: postage. We work on a very low profit margin, and the difference in the postage when we have to send individual issues at the local post office as opposed to the mass-mailing by second class periodical rate is enormous. And you never have this option with any normal "real world" magazine you subscribe to. You can't call or e-mail and ask them to start with any particular issue. They simply start you with the next mass-mailed issue. People who complain about this don't understand we're a small business with a small budget. |

Genii? Excellent. Its fun to read about magic every month. I've subscribed for years.

Genii was always a great magazine, and has gotten even better under Richard Kaufman's hand.
