Robots and machines have been replacing human jobs for years. Imagine another 20 years from now if robots are taking our place with magic on stage.

I have seen a demo of robots performing a magic show at one of those techie exhibitions. The effects performed were dove pan, candle to feather flowers, and square circle.
I doubt they can replace stage manipulations, or could I be wrong LOL |

Certain things can be mimiced but a robot will never have the true gift of free will and creative thought. That is the difference that allows us magicians to bring magic to a higher artform. =)

Imagine in the future if most residence purchase a special built robot to do household work (wash cars, cut grass, clean dishes, act as a butler, etc. Imagine if there was a $10 software for the robot to entertaining a group of kids at a house party. Imagine if the robot was excellent as manipulation. I can see a bunch of children going over the house of where the robot is instead of going over the house to see the human magician. We will all be in the employement line.

I would be happy to buy a robot like that, Mike. This fella can make tons of money for me. All I need to do is to sell the act and this fella do all the dirty work LOL

Yea, you are right. I never thought of it that way. All of us magicians just got to do is buy the robots ourselves. We can leave it with them for one hour as we are dropping off other robots at different houses.
And to make it easier, imagine if the houses already has the robot. The residence will just need to rent the "robot performing magic" software from us. |

We just hit the jackpot, Mike. A million dollar idea LOL.
And with robots performing like that, we don't need twins or triplets now. Transposition has never been easier. They can come in all shapes and sizes, sexy looking too. |

Well guys actually we already have all of this... it's called magic clones. You know, all of us magicians stealing from each other and basically doing the same old thing we have seen others do before. Don't need a robot to do that. lol The sad part is, we all know it's true. BUT, we have the power to change all of that. =)

Very true, Kyle. Unfortunately these clones are not enriching the magic community.
How would you suggest changing all that? I am all ears, Kyle. |

Educating people as much as we possibly can on the power of creativity and creative thinking. I know for a fact that everyone has the power and ability to be as creative as they want to be. The problem is we are lazy and fall into bad habits. If one can be taught a few simple ways to be creative and then use these tips, suggestions and concepts daily, then one can train themselves to be a more creative thinker.
Like with anything being creative takes a bit of effort. Just like staying healthy, you need to exercise each week to stay fit. Creativity is the same. You must exercise your creativity and contine to strive at it so that it becomes a habit. The more you do, the better you get at it. I am hoping to do my part through a brand new lecture I will be debuting next month called "Encore! Creatiity in the Art of Magic!". It is my goal through this lecture and workshop to show people hands on ways to train and teach yourself to be creative. Tips and techniques for brainstorming that really work and eays eercises anyone can do to teahc themselves creative thinking. This is how we start to make less clones and more works of art. =) Kyle

Actually, robots in the popular imagination have long been linked to magic - think the chess player and other automata. I agree with Kyle, that human creativity is everything here. So I don't doubt a modern Robert-Houdin could create a heck of a good magic perfoming robot.

I could see C3PO doing a magic act. And what was the name of the Jetson's maid?
That's our departed buddy Burt, aka The Great Burtini, doing his famous Cups and Mice routine

Have you guys NOT seen David Blaine? I thought he was a robot first time I saw him. Then I found out he didn't have a personality....

I was playing around with my robosapien a while ago trying to get him to help with a card trick. With a little wax you can get him to drop the pack apart from the chosen one. However, having him hold your pack for you and then throw the lot off the end of the table, when you turn your back, is a lot funnier.
