Metro-Magic 3 To Be Held November 4, 2007 Hackettstown, NJ (October 18, 2007) – On Sunday November 4, 2007, world-renowned magician and sleight-of-hand artist Bill Wisch, innovator Bob Solari and veteran Carl Bajor present “Metro-Magic 3 – The Close-Up Convention.” The premier magic event of its kind on the East Coast, this all-day annual convention features top close-up and sleight-of-hand talent and includes a gala show, lectures, mini-lectures and magical dealers from across the country. Admission to the event is $50 in advance and $55 at the door. Metro-Magic 3 will be held in The Quality Inn Meadowlands, located at 10 Polito Avenue Lyndhurst, NJ 07071. Bev Bergeron, of CBS-TV fame, headlines the convention this year. A top-level close-up performer, the public knows him as “Rebo The Clown” from Mark Wilson’s Land of Alakazam, which enjoyed a hit run from 1960 to 1964. The show has been credited by magic historians as the first of its kind; establishing the credibility of magic as profitable television entertainment. Bev has performed on ABC, CBS and NBC television as well as in Las Vegas, NV, Atlantic City, NJ, and Walt Disney World. Bev will lecture during the day, perform at night and mingle with other magicians and attendants throughout the day. Convention organizer Bob Solari feels this convention features the best talent yet. “We’re excited to feature Bev Bergeron this year, “stated Bob. “Bev is a nationally known celebrity and performer and is a testament to the quality of talent we continue to have year after year.” Other magicians scheduled to perform and lecture include Bob Sheets, recent winner of the Magic Castle Lecture of the Year award; Harry Monti, past Society of American Magicians (SAM) National President and regular at the Magic Castle in Hollywood, CA; Paul Hallas, author and award-winning performer; and respected magical innovator Joe Rindfleisch. Providing the lobby entertainment will be Eric Jones, Dave Corsaro and Mark Calabrese. Metro Magic “The Close-Up Convention” was first held in November, 2005 and has featured some of the top talent in the magic world. Focusing specifically on close-up magic, the convention is widely regarded as the number one magic convention in the Northeast. Prominent past performers include Darwin Ortiz (the number-one authority on crooked gambling methods), Mickey Silver (Master Coin Magician featured at the American Poker Player Championships in 2006) and widely published expert magician Harry Riser. How the heck did you overlook the greatest magician you ever had at Metro Magic? At the 2005 convention you had the great Steve Dusheck come out of retirement to headline, and sell out MM I. How soon they forget. Mickey Silver blew everybody away in 2005, and the only reason why he was there was to see Steve Dusheck.

Greetings Kevin;
It will be good to see you and your Dad again. If you have not been to Metro Magic before, then definately head over to it tomorrow morning. This is what close up magic is all about, some of the best in magic lecturing, performing, and hanging out. It just does not get any better than this. All the Best Marty |

I had a fabulous time, I saw some good friends, made some new ones, and most of all I recooped all of my investment by getting at least one booking, and I met some new prospects. As Arnold once said "I'll be back".

Yep, great convention. I think Metro Magic is now possibly the BEST CLOSE UP MAGIC convention in the USA. The day was action packed with the amount of lecturers and performances going on. I hope to be there next year.

I have to agree with Paul, Metro Magic IS THE BEST CLOSE UP CONVENTION. (I know, should'nt use caps, but wanted to get the point across)
Where else can you get to hang with the top close up "workers" all under one roof? It was good seeing Joe Rindfleisch and to see him doing so well. Bev Bergeron recounting the magical past so well. Dave Corsaro, and Harry Monti are always great, and proves the point that close up magic has class. Paul Hallas has more material that you guys have not even seen yet, grab his DVD's and books, there are some great hidden gems in those pages for you guys who work in the real world. Eric Jones, what can be said about Eric, Poetry in Motion. This young man has the look, style, grace and perfect performance that will put him on top. & if you don't already have Fingertips Part 1, Grab one A.S.A.P. you will not regret it. Bob Sheets surely showed why he is a busy working pro, and so down to earth, a great performer and all round super nice guy. (he paid me to say that)lol. Hats off to Bob Solari, Bill & Kevin Wisch, Carl Bajor and their whole crew, including Mom & Dad Solari for making Metro Magic 3 a Super day to remember. All the Best & Looking forward to Metro Magic 4. Marty |

Alas, another Metro-Magic has come and gone...What can be said that hasn't already. I've been to every one since the beginning and I have gotten to see this great one day convention grow and progress. I thought the first one was awesome then came the second. I thought the second was even better than the first and then came this year. What can I say, every year Metro-Magic gets better and better. If anyone missed out it truly is a shame.
Highlights of the convention for me were watching Bob Sheets perform, watching my good friend Eric Jones astound the attendees throughout the day, and attending Dave Corsaro's lecture (One of the few lectures I've been to on Restaurant magic that actually told it like it was). On somewhat of a side note, another friend, Josh Messado performed his linking ring routine for the attendees as well. I'll be totally honest, although he is a friend of mine, I wouldn't lie regarding what I think good magic is. If you haven't seen his ring routine, you're missing out on a true feast for the eyes. If anyone ever gets the chance to meet him ask him to see the routine, you definitely won't be disappointed. If he ever releases it, it'll definitely be a must have for anyone interested in the linking rings done with the Ninja rings. As always it was good to see old friends and to meet new ones as well. Steve's Steakhouse was great too! I can't wait for next year! -Bill |

Bill said,
"(One of the few lectures I've been to on Restaurant magic that actually told it like it was). " Pity you didn't see mine at the last Funarama convention :) Dave's lecture was a very professional, job well done. The only criticism, which was the same for most of the lecturers, and not their fault, was that the allotted time was very short, 30 minutes in most cases. I think I'd prefer to see fewer lecturers but more time allotted to them to share their ideas. Having said that, the organisers Bob, Bill and Carl are obviously trying to give great value for money and in that they succeed hands down. I'm looking forward to next year. Paul. p.s. Someone will have to let me know where Steve's Steakhouse is next year. |

Seeing Paul, Eric, Josh, Dave, was like no other convention I have ever been to, but swaping rubber band tricks with the steatly Vince Mendoza was the highlight of my visit to the Meadowlands. Bill why didn't you tell me about Sreve's Steakhouse? Hey lets do it all over again this Saturday at Kutztown. Paul is right Dave Corsaro's lecture was great, the trick he did about his wife is a real keeper, but his lecture was in fast forward.
I want to make a public request to have the legendary Godfather lecture at MM IV because he is better than them all.

Paul: I greatly enjoyed your performance at the close-up show. I know I would have loved your lecture as well. Hopefully sometime in the near future I'll be able to see the lecture itself, either that or our paths will hopefully cross as well. I enjoy your work very much! Steve's has some great food. Rindfleisch is the one to talk about the location too I have no idea, I just get in someone car and go lol. You're more than welcome to come w/us next yr though.
Al: Sorry about Steve's Steakhouse, we go every year. It's like our little tradition. You'll def have to come next yr though, they have great food! I'll be at Kutztown too so I'm down for a repeat. -Bill |

Okay Bill, remind me about the steakhouse next year, lol. Nothing better than good company, a good steak and good magic.
I see Al is suggesting names for next year.. If I were going to throw a couple of names in the ring, perhaps J. K. Hartman and John Bannon could be approached... See you guys at Kutztown. Best wishes, Paul. |

Hey Guys,
This was my 2nd Metro Magic Convention, I missed the first one. On the plus side, there was a nice variety in the dealers room and some great lectures. The convention has a very friendly feel to it and the location is great as well. Paul Hallas was wonderful as always and always makes me want to go home and re-learn all my packet tricks (whether they work with an entire deck or just a packet!) Eric Jones who did walk around, is magic on ice! (smooth, cool, and captivating). Give this man a lecture! Dave Corsaro gave a very intensive and intersting lecture including powerpoint slides. (It really wasn't made clear if the powerpoint presentation was made available to all the attendees of the lecture or just those purchasing lecture notes. I was a bit off-put by that.) Joe Rindfleisch attempted to do his usual amazing close up work with coins, bands and cards but was stymied by the video camera which was not set up yet. So Joe went ahead and started while they got the camera ready. Joe handled it very professionally and kept on prestidigitating, but I personally could not pay attention the first 10 or 15 minutes. The camera is on, the camera is off. The camera is here, the camera is there. The camera is in focus, the camera is out of focus. The camera is on, the cammer is off. Do I watch Joe, do I watch the screen? There is a glare on the screen, I can't see Joe. Move the camera up, move the camera back. The camera is off again, oye! Get the picture? I am sure that these are volunteer positions, but one would think that the set up would have been done before the first performer took stage. I felt bad for Joe. Gee, imagine if it were you? Anywayz the just gave up and turned the camera off and Joe ended his presentation with some AMAZING coin work that just blew me away. Especially his muscle pass! He had a great deal on his DVDs at the convention so I had to buy 2! My only other note on the conference would be a comment on the schedule. I liked MM2's schedule a lot better than MM3's. I guess the advantage of this years schedule was that they were able to schedule in more performers. But the disadvantage was that the quality of the lectures seemed to suffer. Every lecturer seemed to be rushing and sweating and puffing and asking every 30 seconds "How much time do I have?" instead of focusing on the message and the magic. And there was one question that I had... when were we supposed to get lunch without missing a lecture? There was no lunch break built into the schedule. That was really odd. Anywayz, hopefully I brought out all the positives and the negatives of MM3. Don't be fooled, I'll be at MM4 hoping for the best! |

NYCJoePitt,
Great comments. The camera situation will certainly be fixed for next year. Being the cameraman, I can certainly say, without doubt, it's a volunteer position (being Bill's son and all) I do it for the love of the convention and to help out, nothing more. I'm an MBA student and certainly don't claim to be a cameraman. Things like that will happen and should be expected, no matter where you are. Trust me, I know- I worked on Wall Street for a summer and helped organize events there; nothing (including the Superbowl halftime show) goes without glitches. On a positive note, Bev Bergeron pointed out to my dad and I that the convention was the "only one he's been to in years that was actually ON TIME." We considered that a major compliment! I'm glad you enjoyed yourself and had some fun. That's what Metro-Magic is all about! - Kevin |
