So!
I have a show in 2 weeks for a charity dinner with audience of 500 in the UK. and I will be performing my normal comedy show, but I always like to add unique (up to date - latest news jokes) I have written my joke about all the postal strikes at the moment, but one of the other news topics at the moment is the bbc cutting down (saying goodbye to 1000's of staff) I just can't think of a joke for it, I have been doing word associations also trying to find something. The bbc is also very well know for repeats. so theres something there too! Heres an article on the bbc news, maybe someone will have an idea? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7051414.stm Thanks guys! anyway I may be able to combine it with a juggling trick I am trying to think of? or just a joke. Sorry, quite a big request, but I am stuck here. James

I hear that the BBC are planning on cutting 1000's of jobs. The unions have said that if their workers get a letter asking for voluntary redundancies they will strike. The management haven't said that the letters were posted last week. Of course they sent them be royal mail...

What is a popular game show at the moment where you can win money? And say their severance package is a spot on this show. Or that the 2000 staffers will be placed on a remote island and the first 1000 to die lose their jobs.

Buster,
Not sure that this will help, but if it's an adult crowd and you are talking about postal employees, this should work. "In all the years of drug testing postal employees, there is one drug they have never ever found.......speed." Not sure that will translate in England, but gets a laugh over here. |

Hi there,
LOL! I liked that one Arthur! I'm sure the joke would do well over here in England, and it would go down a storm! Thanks for posting! Many thanks Mark Watson

The closer to the job the time line gets the more topical the jokes will be, and the more you will impress your audience. What I enjoy doing is some old chesnuts mixed with some comical observatoins of what the speakers who preceded you said that evening said.

Ok James PMed me about my post, so I will try to clarify. If there are speakers that precede you pay attention to what they say and use their words as part of your comedy routine, kinda making a runnung joke out of the whole evening. I feel this shows the audience that they are getting something fresh, and that you are thinking on your feet.
Last Saturday night I followed several magicians that did rope magic, so when I was introduced I came out on stage with some rope in my hands, looked at the audience, looked at the rope, through it on the floor and said "oh well I guess I'll have to do something else" it got a great laugh and I had to borrow someone elses rope to get that laugh.
