New to Balloon sculptures, I've been studying the various instructional videos. I notice that some people burp the balloon and some do not.
What does the panel think?

That would depend on whether you mouth inflate or pump. Also the brand and color of the balloon will be a deciding factor as to how soft you want your sculpture and what you're making.

Hi Genghis:

I mouth-inflate and always burp my balloons.

Never burp WHILE you're mouth inflating though...that's just gross.

Burping a balloon is not a necessary 'technique.' I think it is less a matter of burping the balloon, than it is knowing exactly how much to inflate the balloon.

If I do 'burp' it, it is usually for two reasons. 1. just to get a little more end to tie the knot with, or 2. to let some air out because it seems I have over inflated a bit.

I never burp it just to burp it.

Burping the balloon is dependant upon what I am making. I usually burp because I want to soften the balloon. If I am making a string of pearls, I don't want to soften the balloon because I can make a more consistently shape "pearl" if I have pressure in the balloon.
