Although L'Homme Masque Load can be done from Thumb Palm, he probably meant the Vernon Load, which is taught on the same DVD. If not, I apologize Seth for putting words in your mouth.

There is plenty of gold to mine in these classics.

I can remember my first hooked coin (real silver!) and thought I was high-tech.

Last night I got a buffalo quarter. The world is changing.

Kevin -- I agree that especially for coin sleights, a DVD can be very helpful in showing you what to do and what not to do. Although the Bobo book is a great reference and resource, it is not necessarily the best way to begin learning coin magic, even if you learn well from a book.

If you'd like to get a taste of coin magic without getting into the entire Bobo book/DVD, I would suggest you take a look at David Roth's "Expert Coin Magic" DVD, Volume 1, click HERE for more info. Leave the classic palm alone for the moment and work on your finger palm and thumb palm, which are easier to acquire and just about as effective. With those two sleights, you can then perform plenty of other good sleights, including a Shuttle Pass (vanish or switch) and a L'Homme Masque Load (production), as well as classic routines like the Miser's Dream.

You could also take a look at Roth's "Ultimate Coin Magic" DVD's, especially Volumes One and Two, which cover Copper/Silver coins, Okito boxes and some other very interesting stuff. Click HERE for more info.

Then the material in Bobo will start to make more sense, and you can also give the classic palm a try. Good Luck! SETH

Dear sethb,

I actually have that video, Roth's Volume 1. Don't have the 2nd or 3rd though.
I let my other magician friend borrow it and don't have it back yet.

Based on all the good guidance, yesterday I purchased Modern Coin Magic by Bobo and Ammar's Introduction to Coin Magic. I'm on my way...

Tony my friend, a word of advice... Emphasize on Ammar's CITCM, and leave Bobo for later... Much later, when you have also studied Roth's Expert Coin Magic Made Easy, Rubinstein's Encyclopedia of coin sleights etc. Leave that book on your shelf for now. Unless you're a master at deciphering encrypted data. Or unless you also bought the DVD. Or, unless you really want to quit coin magic.

BTW does anyone know any load from FINGER palm?

Hmmmmm, I may have spoken too fast, it may be the "Vernon Load" instead of LHM. But I think everyone got the basic idea, sorry for any confusion, thanks to Chad and iceblade for pointing out the error.

And yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus and at least one Finger Palm load. On the Royal Magic DVD, "21 Tricks with a Scotch & Soda," there is a VERY cute routine in which a half dollar and a centavo are placed on the right palm, which is then closed. When the hand is opened, the centavo has disappeared. AMAZING! The half dollar is picked up, the hand is closed again and the half dollar is waved over it, to cause the centavo to reappear. But when the hand is opened, surprise -- no centavo, but there is a solid steel 1/2" nut! A neat and easy load using a finger palm, with perfect cover and just about angle-proof. Very useful, you could also use this move/load in a Cups & Balls routine, among other things. SETH
