This is a note that came to the members of Ring 199 yesterday. I thought I should pass it along...
It is with great sorrow that we report the death of Hughie on October 25, 2007. He fought a courageous battle with cancer, but always had a great attitude and enjoyed spending time with his many friends in magic. Hughie was a charter member of Ring 199 and remained very active with magic even through is illness. The Ring sends it’s thoughts and prayers to his wife, Virginia, and their family in this time of sorrow. Hughie's service will be at NHF on Tuesday, October 30, 2007. Viewing and reception will be from 12 noon until 1:45pm. Service will be at 2pm. Ray Wickham will conduct the service and Tom & Mike will do a Broken Wand Ceremony as part of the service. Full military honors will be at graveside. |

And now the sad news that his daughter, Margaret, passed away only six days later on 10/31/07.

Like Bonnie Raitt said, "I miss Little Feat more than I miss being 8 years old." Thanks for the concerts + recordings, Lowell, Richie, and Paul!

Hughie Olmstead, for those of you who don't know, used to be the owner of The Magic Corner (Raleigh's only Magic Shop), when it was in Downtown Raleigh. He is responsible for hundreds of people getting interested and involved in magic in our area. I didn't know him until this last year of his life. As I got involved in the local Ring, he met my kids at a club meeting and at the next meeting he brought them a magic set. I couldn't believe it, he didn't know us at all, but wanted to give my kids a gift, a really nice magic set. It was a very generous and thoughtfull act, and one that I will never forget.
